In the cultural hub of Ubud, Bali, home to one of the globe’s most competitive hospitality markets, Archigods uncovers 'Pistachio Villas', a sculptural boutique hotel. This one-year built eco-modern retreat consists of a circle of nine villas shaped like open pistachio-flowered shells, abandoning conventional typologies in favor of an instantly recognizable identity.

Inspired by a flower opening, the hotel’s circular design spreads outward, connecting the buildings naturally to the surrounding land. Seen from above, the masterplan resembles a blooming pistachio flower – an intentional gesture that creates a visual effect and story coherence. Located in the jungle of Ubud, the bamboo, wood, and stone structures follow natural shapes with curved lines and open spaces.
Each villa opens onto private gardens, while a central pool and tropical walkway connect the compound in a continuous journey. Unlike most resorts in the area, Pistachio Villas offers guests a distinct experience rooted in slowness and softness. The Bali-based team of Archigods fills the interiors with filtered light, natural textures, and a restrained palette that boosts the feeling of retreat. Every element – from the entrance gate to the beach pool – is curated for atmospheric resonance, forming a cohesive spatial story.
Inspired by a Flower's Opening Shape
The layout is circular, with each room shaped like a petal that opens toward the center garden. From above, the building looks like a flower or a nut slowly opening. This unusual shape helps the hotel fuse into its surroundings and feel more connected to the land.
Built using bamboo, stone, and reclaimed wood, the hotel focuses on simple, sustainable materials found locally. The design avoids heavy construction and instead relies on open-air flow and natural light. Each space is kept minimal, with curved walls, wood finishes, and plenty of daylight. The goal is to create calm, not flash.
The hotel avoids air conditioning by using passive cooling. The curved structure allows for better airflow, and the layout makes the most of natural light. There are also rooftop gardens and a water recycling system to reduce the building’s impact on the environment.
Archigods designed the hotel with wellness and quiet in mind. It's not made for fast-paced tourism, but for travelers who want a slower, more thoughtful experience. It's a place to rest, reflect, and enjoy nature without distraction.
