Astrantia is such a feminine, lovely and colorful flower. Many event designers all over the world pick this flower for its outstanding decorative value and strength. You'll definitely find some in these bridal bouquets that were featured in the recent edition of Praxis Magazine by Germany's floral authority BLOOM's - including two DIY's!

Astrantia's Heart of Real Blooms

What do florists and consumers like best about Astrantia? It's so beautiful to look at closely! Just try and see; there is more to this button-shaped flower than you can imagine. For instance, did you know that only the astrantia's heart consists of real blooms? It's a bunch of tiny flowers on thin stems. A kind of Biedermeier bouquet on a single stem. The wreath of 'petals' around the heart consists of bracts, also known as windings.

Star Flower

The name astrantia derives from the Latin word 'aster' which means 'star' and refers to these star-shaped petals around the flower's heart. Astrantias are grown in Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, and Kenya by Marginpar, and come in various shades of pink, red, and white. The Marginpar company has developed the flower into a charming all-rounder. Not only does its looks make it a popular flower in bouquets and floral arrangements, but also its strength makes it a sure choice for arrangements that have to be perfect for special events like weddings.
