As I continue sharing stories from the World of Spray Roses, my first farm visit of 2025 brought me to Sian Flowers in Kenya. I’ve interacted with Sian Flowers for quite a while now, but I was surprised to discover just how much of their production is dedicated to spray roses. At Maasai Flowers, one of their four branches, which was started in 2008, 90% of the farm’s production is dedicated to spray roses from Interplant’s varieties. Out of the 46 hectares under production, 30 hectares are filled with Interplant’s spray roses—featuring over 50 varieties.
Some of the Intriguing Highlights Grown by Sian Flowers
Some varieties instantly caught my attention. Spray Rose Gelato, for example, looks like a bowl of ice cream—soft, delicate, and such a beautiful soft pink from the inside as it opens. Then there’s Spray Rose Eyeliner, which had me laughing because the name is so fitting! The dark outline on the petals does give it that perfectly lined look, like actual eyeliner on a rose.

Spray Rose Summer Rose, one of Sian’s premium Interplant varieties, is an off-white, creamy spray rose that blends beautifully into any arrangement. It’s known for its high flower production, long vase life, and, interestingly, has almost no thorns despite its strong, shrub-like nature. I’d use it to add that whimsical, hairy feel to floral designs. A variety that quickly became a new favorite is Spray Rose Emerald Queen—and for good reason. Exclusive to Sian Flowers, this white rose has a subtle touch of green, giving each stem the look of a full bouquet when fully opened. It is unique to Sian, making it a rare find in the market.

Of course, the Bombastic Series never disappoints, and Madam Bombastic stands out. With its cream-salmon pink petals and ruffled edges, it’s perfect for adding volume and elegance to any floral arrangement. Each stem carries multiple blooms, making it a great choice for lush designs. The Trendsetter series roses open up fully, revealing all their petals most dramatically. Spray Rose Magic Trendsetter caught my eye with its hot pink, coral, and apricot blend—it’s bold and lush, perfect for creating beautiful bouquets. I’d gift someone a whole bunch of these on their own!

Another standout from the collection is the Spray Rose Yoga Trendsetter. Predominantly yellow, it’s the perfect flower for friendship, appreciation, and joy. I could see it being a great addition to gender-neutral baby showers or brightening up a space with its warmth.
World of Spray Roses Campaign, Sian Flowers Edition
Sian Flowers reckons the significant role the World of Spray Roses has played since its inception, in creating awareness, promoting, and positioning spray roses across different markets. Being a great partner of Interplant Roses, growing more than 50+ spray rose varieties across its four farms in Kenya. Sian Flowers works closely with the breeder, often in the early selection of varieties or commercial development of specific varieties on exclusive terms.
Being a member of the World of Spray Roses, Sian appreciates the efforts the initiative has put into creating more demand and education regarding the use of spray roses in different floral arrangements. This is what Christopher Kulei, Director at Sian Flowers had to say about the World of Spray Roses;
"At Sian Flowers, we take immense pride in being part of the World of Spray Roses, an initiative that has played a pivotal role in promoting and positioning spray roses across global markets. Their dedication to creating awareness and educating florists, designers, and consumers about the versatility and beauty of spray roses has significantly contributed to increasing their demand worldwide.
We are committed to working closely with the World of Spray Roses and Interplant Roses to continue innovating and delivering top-quality spray roses to the world. Together, we are elevating spray roses to new heights, and expanding their influence in the global floriculture industry."
Passion Beyond Growing Roses
Sian Flowers has four branches across Kenya, making it one of the largest producers of spray roses. Their contribution to Kenya’s floriculture industry is undeniable, supplying high-quality, unique flowers to different markets worldwide. During my visit, I got to see some varieties for the first time and experience their entire process—from harvesting at the right cut stage to rigorous quality checks to packaging. Watching the workers go through each step with care and precision made me appreciate the level of dedication that goes into producing top-tier flowers.

One thing that stood out to me beyond the flowers was Sian’s commitment to its people. The farm invests in training, provides safety gear, and offers a subsidized meal plan for employees daily. I sat down with the workers for a simple yet meaningful meal for lunch. It was a good reminder that floriculture isn’t just about the flowers; it’s about the people behind them.

Beyond the farm, Sian also gives back to the community through investment in educational infrastructure and improving sanitation within local schools. Their impact goes beyond growing flowers for sure!
