These spectacular cut paper sculptures will catch your attention at first peep since they leave a lot to talk about when it comes to the beauty of flora and fauna. Through a fascinating, yet scrupulous artistic process, Maude White brings plants and animals to 'life' by way of her talented hands.
Maude White - The Cut Paper Sculpture Magician
Maude White's sculptures depict lifelike animal portraits, braided locks, and veins of petals and leaves while being made from singular pieces of paper. The artist starts by referencing a photograph and making a loose sketch to maintain general measurements before making numerous tiny cuts on archival sheets with a size 11 blade.
She recently had the opportunity to share that every cut expands outward from there, and she has to make sure that the piece can maintain its integrity when it's complete and not fall apart. Maude White then makes a meticulous selection for the first cut, and this is where the true magic begins to happen. Her inspiration and talent while performing each cut paper sculpture are truly astonishing.
Her Never-Ending Love for Elephants and Flowers
Maude White likes to keep on the theme of nature, concentrating on expressive animals and varied flora. She says, adding that she has been working with new shapes that are less obviously literal, and she will always come back to her eternal love for elephants and flowers.
At first look, the net-like, 'sketchy' composition shown in each of her sculptures resembles a bird's nest, but upon closer scrutiny, an elephant's eye and trunk are visible. It was a lot of work to plan and execute, but she truly enjoys every second of the process.
Maude White Focuses on Creative Self-Discovery and Empowerment
'Resilience Alchemy', a deck and guidebook with White's artwork that emphasizes creative self-discovery and empowerment, was released in December 2022.
Even while it's a change from the more elaborate cut-paper work, she shares she's extremely pleased with this project and thinks it examines resilience in a manner that might be helpful and positive for a lot of people.
Using Art as a Way of Healing
Maude White has a strong conviction that art may help promote emotional and physical healing. She explains that art has the power to be a tender conduit, a priceless, living process that may enter the creator and the audience, extending and connecting them, making them feel more expansive and cherished.
Through her efforts, White wishes to help the world become a more loving and caring place. In order to evoke in the viewer feelings of security and tranquility, the artist wants to stimulate emotional and mental links with a remote or fictitious past. A lot of value in helping others and giving them a safe haven through her job is one of her main purposes, even if that safe haven is merely an imagined location she transports them to.
