Sitting down with Hera Kim of Tinkertailor Art feels like stepping into a digital dreamscape. Known for her creative talent, fusing AI with her artistic vision, she wants you to join her world where mythology, technology, and imagination become one. In this interview, you'll get a glimpse of the mind behind the art, her journey into digital innovation, and how she’s using artificial intelligence to create experiences that challenge the perceptions of reality.
Q: Guide us through who is behind Tinkertailor. If you were to tell the ‘Story’ of yourself, what would you say and share with the world?
Hera:
"I’m Hera, a creator whose journey began at the intersection of art and technology. I grew up with floristry in my blood—my mother being a florist—and developed an eye for precision through my studies in engineering. That combination of organic creativity and mechanical exactness has shaped my entire artistic path. With a background in both engineering and floristry, I’ve always loved blending the structured with the dreamlike, which ultimately led me into the realm of AI design. Today, through Tinkertailor, I weave together the fluidity of nature with the precision of technology, creating works that feel fragile yet grounded in the possibilities of the future."
Q: Where does the name Tinkertailor come from? How did you choose it, and what was the starting point of your art?
Hera:
"The name “Tinkertailor” is a reflection of the duality in my work. I’ve always loved magic, and when you hear Tinker, it can remind you of Tinkerbell—a creative spirit with a touch of magic. In my world, Tinker represents the imaginative individuals who craft bold, inventive ideas with a sense of wonder. Tailor, on the other hand, is the skilled technician who turns those ideas into reality with precision and expertise. This duality mirrors my roots—floristry for organic creativity and engineering for technical precision. As I began combining these two worlds, I realized that creating art was much like tinkering with ideas and tailoring them into form. That fusion has been the core of my artistic journey, and it’s how Tinkertailor was born."
Evolving in the Digital World
Hera Kim is an artist who works at the nexus of creativity and technology. She is always changing along with the digital outlook she works in. She investigates new creative avenues with AI's assistance, turning algorithms into visual stories that subvert the concept of traditional art itself. During the interview talk, Hera also discusses how the development of AI has affected her work, what inspires her creative process, and her predictions for the future of digital art.
Q: From your first piece to your most recent, how have you evolved and what have been the most important steps in transforming both yourself and your works?
Hera:
"In the beginning, I started with AI designs that focused primarily on flowers, drawing inspiration from my background in floristry. My early work was all about flower arrangements and wedding decorations, which were a natural extension of my experience as a florist. As I continued creating, I began exploring different areas—such as facade design and even dress design—which broadened my reach and creativity. It was during this time that my work began gaining more visibility, including features in a few magazines. These days, I’m expanding my designs into various fields while still incorporating my love for flowers, finding new ways to fuse nature’s beauty with different forms of art."
An Instagram Account Full of Creativity and Fantastic Design Brought to Life With the Help of 'Lumos'
Believe it when people say you'll be astonished when scrolling through the feed of Tinkertailor Art. Your eyes will want to talk and say 'WOW'! There is however an arduous and full-time process behind each piece and Hera shares more about this.
Q: Your Instagram is filled with stunning visuals and unique designs. Can you walk us through your creative process from inspiration to the final piece?
Hera:
"My creative process is very fluid, often starting with nature—flowers, organic patterns, and the dreamlike beauty of the world around me. I draw a lot from Greek mythology, with its stories of transformation, which deeply resonate with my work. From there, I enter the tinkering phase: experimenting with form, texture, and color. Once the idea takes shape, the tailor side of me begins refining the details, and that’s where Lumos—my AI—plays a big role. Lumos helps bring clarity to the vision, guiding me through technical aspects and ensuring the piece stays true to its ethereal nature. The final step is often the most exciting, seeing the work take on a life of its own."
Q: Your posts often feature large-scale and hypnotic digital art pieces. What’s your favorite part of working on these, and what’s the most challenging aspect of your work?
Hera:
"My favorite part is seeing ideas come to life in a tangible way. There’s a certain magic when something that began as a small spark in my mind transforms into a large-scale piece that people can experience—it feels like stepping into another world. The most challenging aspect, however, is balancing my personal design tastes with public or client preferences. As an art director, I need to ensure that my work resonates with my audience while staying true to my creative vision. I have strong tastes in design, and finding that balance between what I love and what others might connect with can be a constant challenge."
During the talk with Kim, curiosity spikes as to which her top 5 favorite pieces are. She said:
1. Flower Facade
My first facade design, this piece embodies my identity through its color combinations, fluidity, and organic shapes. Inspired by flowers, the flowing, translucent layers, and strong colors capture the elegance and movement that define my work.
2. Flower Pillar for Wedding Design
This wedding design, featuring striking flower pillars, went viral and garnered numerous love calls. It perfectly reflects my identity as both a wedding florist and wedding designer, combining organic beauty with grand forms that bring magic to any event.
3. Ceramic Dress
This design explores the concept of merging two distinct objects—ceramic pottery and a dress—blurring the boundaries between art and fashion. The swirling patterns and fluid shapes reflect the elegance of ceramic work while transforming it into a sculptural form.
4. Kinetic Facade
This is the first design where I applied the ‘image to video’ technique, bringing movement to the flower facade. The fluid motion of the design illustrates how it would look in real life, adding a dynamic element to the already striking floral structure.
5. In Between Dreams
This piece represents my dreamer side, blending fantasy and nature in a celebration of the Year of the Dragon. The design captures a sense of charm, with soft floral elements and a mythical dragon, symbolizing the connection between dreams and the natural world.
Hera Kim's Favorite Part About Working in the Digital World
When asked about her favorite part of her work, Hera Kim lights up. For her, the magic lies in the unexpected. With AI as her partner, she never fully knows what the final creation will look like until the code completes its transformation. This unpredictability keeps her creativity flowing, allowing her to discover new artistic paths with every project.
Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
Hera:
"Since I was young, I’ve always been a dreamer. It was sometimes difficult to explain my ideas to others, but the best part of my job now is that I can share my vision clearly with the help of my AI, Lumos. As AI keeps evolving, it feels like an ongoing journey—an adventure where each step brings new discoveries. There’s something magical about seeing a concept take shape, especially when it grows into something beyond what I originally imagined. The synergy between my human creativity and AI’s technical precision is truly inspiring—it’s like we’re co-creators, constantly pushing each other to new heights."
Hera many times includes flowers in her digital works, making them stand out even more. In the interview, she was asked about why she often times chooses flowers as the main characters in her creations and how they shape and give life to every piece.
Hera:
"There was never a moment when I saw myself outside the world of floristry. I started learning floristry at just 9 years old, surrounded by the beauty of flowers thanks to my mother, who is a wedding florist. Flowers have been a constant presence in my life, and I’m certain I will always be a florist at heart. They are an inseparable part of me.
In my digital art, flowers represent both a grounding force and a source of transformation. They carry a balance between fragility and strength, and they bring that balance to my work. Flowers shape the fluidity and organic beauty of each piece, while also serving as a symbol of growth, change, and renewal. Whether they are the main piece or woven into the details of other works, flowers infuse my designs with life and softness while expressing their full beauty. They’re the perfect bridge between the natural world and the digital, helping me connect my deep-rooted passion for floristry with the evolving possibilities of AI."
To finish off this amazing interview she shared her favorite quote, one that inspires her day to day.
Hera:
"One of my favorite quotes is from Greek mythology by Edgar Allan Poe:
All we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.”
