For many years she enjoys being present in big exhibitions such as Fleuramour, Floraliën Ghent, and many more. As also being part of the designer of the year from Stichting Kunstboek. She firmly believes that if you want to understand our planet, you have to work with the soil...We highlight her work for Floraliën Ghent because, in times like these, we all can use some light, some floral hopeful sunbeams. Enjoy the story of the child, the sun, and the gnomes.
Inspiration for These Floral Hopeful Sunbeams
Rita's father grew flowers and plants, her mother sold them on the market. The simple country life, the intense contact with nature, the soil, and the seasons. They shaped Rita's passion and molded her personality. The potato is her companion de route, her guide, source of life, and subject of creations that are close to Rita's heart. There is nothing that connects her to the earth more than the potato. She was gifted a talent, a natural talent, and she wants to share that talent. For Floraliën Ghent Rita created a design with the title: "The Story of the Child, the Sun and the Gnomes."
Rita Van Gansbeke:
"I asked the child, draw me a sun. The child drew a yellow sun.
This inspired me to create floral sunbeams with beautiful fibers and beautiful Craspedias.
I told the child about the sun as an energy source for the oxygen factories in the green plants, as a heat and light source for the gnomes in 'my green paradise'.
Red, blue, black, yellow or red hats or shoes…
They all get oxygen, light, heat."
From April 29 to May 8 2022, Ghent is in the spotlight with "My Paradise, My Worldly Garden" the theme of Floraliën Ghent.
