Paul Deckers

Paul Deckers is an internationally recognized Master Floral Designer from the Netherlands, known for his distinctive approach to floral design as a form of artistic expression. Since 1986, he has been closely involved in the floral decorations of St. Peter’s Square in Rome for the Easter Urbi et Orbi, serving as Head Arranger for many years until 2021. Working from his studio in Posterholt, Limburg, Deckers has developed a unique language in floral design, one that goes beyond flowers alone. His work integrates branches, roots, leaves, mosses, and other natural materials, creating compositions that are symbolic, emotional, and often spiritual in character. For him, floral design is not just decoration, but a way to translate feeling into form. In 1986, he introduced the concept of floral design as a broader discipline, reflecting his belief that nature itself is both material and inspiration. His creations are known for their strength, tension, and simplicity, guided by his personal philosophy: “Doing more by using less.” Throughout his career, Paul Deckers has traveled the world as an ambassador of Dutch floristry, giving demonstrations and sharing his vision in countries such as Switzerland, South Africa, Taiwan, and Israel. His work at the Vatican, including audiences with Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis, remains one of the most defining elements of his career. At the heart of everything he creates lies a deep connection to nature and a continuous search for meaning, where even the smallest detail can transform into something greater.
