Teaming up with Tesselaar Alstroemeria, here I’ve used their fabulous flowers to bring you three very different alstro-inspired pieces designed for a retail florist on an elevated level. As a retail florist I can hands up admit that I’m an alstro addict!

Showcasing an array of colors suitable to compliment every season and style, the beautiful, long-lasting, delicate stems can be found on my flower display every working day of the year. To collaborate with the amazing team at Tesselaar Alstroemeria and create three alstro-inspired designs allows me to showcase their fabulous flowers and shine a stoplight on Alstroemeria as a stunning, stand-alone, statement stem capable of taking your floral game from basic to boujee!

Comparison Time: Alstro Special Meets Alstro Lux

Completely aware and understanding of the needs of their customers and the varying purposes their flowers are intended for, Tesselaar Alstroemeria is able to offer various varieties of Alstroemeria at different stages of bloom. For this particular project, I will compare two, the high-quality variety of Alstro Lux and the pure exclusivity and openly blooming Alstro Special.

Appreciating the Alstroemeria for the beauty of their blooms, I start by preparing the stem by removing the foliage

Let's start by comparing these two varieties by creating two identical bouquets—one featuring Alstro Special and the other showcasing Astro Lux.

Our first step is to prepare the stems. I personally chose to remove all the foliage from the stem to create a clean streamlined look to the finished arrangement and keep the water source as fresh as possible prolonging the life of your arrangement.

The Alstro Special has instant impact, flaunting vibrant color in its blooms right from the get-go. Its full, lush, and undeniably striking. The Alstro Lux on the other hand is the quiet beauty. Still in bud form yet already pretty and elegant, these stems hint at the potential of the beauty that is to come from these beautiful blooms.

On comparing the two bouquets over several days and weeks, both varieties boasted longevity in their blooms making a classic bouquet of alstroemeria the perfect gift.

Crescent Moon Arrangement

For the second design, I’ve chosen to create an arrangement in floral foam as we observe the life of the Alstro Lux in this environment.

Firstly, I built the frame of the piece using a variety of foliage to add depth and texture as well as adding visual interest and structure to give the crescent moon its signature curve.

Let's create a Crescent Moon

Time to add the star of the show, the prettiness of the petals, and the color to the crescent - introducing the Alstro Lux to complete the piece adding impact and giving interest at each stage as the flowers develop and open into a showcase of full bloom.

Ten days later, still fresh still fabulous, and still full of color! That’s the beauty of Alstro Lux – Durability meets dreamy design.

Boujee Bouquet

Who doesn’t love a little upgrade from basic? Think fancy packaging, upscale blooms, or floral designs that lean towards elegant excess, as we use basic design principles to create a boujee bouquet!

Creating the Boujee Bouquet

For this piece, I’m starting by using a wire wreath frame to create a solid skeleton that will become the structure of the design. Working to the spiral principal I then add the beautiful stems of the Alstro Lux at varying heights to build dimension and shape.

Keeping the color pallet neutral for this design I introduce Astrantia to add another texture and give depth to the composition.

Securely tied and displayed in a shallow bowl, this structural piece gives an instantly elevated look taking the usual hand-tied from basic to boujee!

Watching these beautiful stems transform from bud to full bloom and boast delicate yet durable flowers whilst having longevity to their vase life is all the reason I’m an Astroemeria addict!
