India's largest exhibition on floriculture, nursery, and greenhouse technology is set to take place from 25 to 27 October 2024 at the Bombay (NESCO) Exhibition Center in Goregaon (East), Mumbai. The 17th International Flora Expo 2024 and the 17th International Landscape & Gardening Expo 2024 is a three-day event that promises to be quite a floral spectacle offering a unique platform for floral industry professionals, enthusiasts, and any other visitors to converge, and positively network.

The fair is set to showcase the best in floral art, floristry, pot plant production, seeds and planting material, machine supply chain, processed flowers, packaging, decoration, greenhouse technologies, vertical and urban farming, irrigation and fertigation systems, hydroponics, and aquaponics, as well as landscape and gardening innovations. Here’s all you need to know about the event.

A Moment of Celebration of India’s Floriculture, Gardening and Landscaping

The 17th International Flora Expo is a key event for the Indian floriculture industry, which has experienced remarkable growth in recent years. With about 300 million strong middle and affluent classes out of its 1.4 billion people, India is soon expected to become the world's third-largest consumer market.

The growing purchasing power and influence of social media have enabled Indian consumers to splurge on good things, making the country one of the world's largest consumer bases and the fastest-growing retail destinations. Such is reflected in its retail flower industry as well.

In that context, one key player encouraging flower production, promoting local flowers, and creating awareness about the use of fresh flowers is the Grower's Flower Council of India (GFCI). Established with the duty to uplift the country’s floriculture sector, GFCI plays a key role in supporting growers, promoting sustainable practices, and encouraging the aesthetic and cultural significance of fresh flowers.

Grower's Flower Council of India:

“GFCI is excited to support the Indian floriculture industry in blooming into a vital segment of the country's agricultural sector; a transformation largely attributed to our dedicated efforts, thus inspiring hope for the industry's future.”

One of GFCI's important initiatives, in this regard, has been spearheading a campaign to ban artificial and plastic flower imports and sales in India. This significant move aligns with global efforts to reduce plastic waste, mitigate environmental impact, and promote the use of locally grown, eco-friendly flowers.

Implementing this ban means GFCI champions the use of locally grown, eco-friendly flowers, which contribute to a cleaner and greener environment and support the local flower industry, thereby promoting economic growth.

The International Flora Expo 2024, now officially approved by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) as an International Horticultural Trade Exhibition is, therefore, a moment of pride for India and the global horticultural community, emphasizing the International Flora Expo’s significant role in the international horticultural stage.

A Platform for Trade and Networking

The exhibition, as previously indicated, focuses on floral art, floristry, pot plant production, seeds, young plants, machinery, supply chain management, cut flower processing, packaging, home decor, greenhouse construction, substrates, landscape, and gardening tech.

It is expected to attract more than 250 companies from various sectors, providing a platform for the convergence of global business interests, such as conventional flower and gardening industry professionals, bulk buyers from large industries, florists, retailers like home centers, supermarkets, departmental stores, interior designers, and interior shops to exchange views on expanding their business avenues and accessing opportunities.

In addition, a conference themed ‘Plant, Places & People’ will be held on 26 October, bringing together thought leaders, innovators, and experts to examine the crucial connection between plants and urban spaces, and human interaction with green environments. This conference promises to enrich the expo experience even more; addressing important topics and stimulating important discourses.
