In a series of three blogs, I show you seven of my autumnal designs—based on the lovely collection of Marginpar—and explain all about the flowers and techniques. This is my third blog, where I invite you to snuggle up close and enjoy my three romantic designs.
Where I showed in my previous two blogs Autumn Reimagined and Fall Colors From Yellow to Purple that fall does not necessarily have to have standard colors and designs, in my third blog I go back to the basic colors and show more or less what you'd expect as fall designs... in my own way, of course.
The Berry Parade
When autumn comes, I start working with berries...lots of berries. I love their color, different sizes, different types, and shades. Sometimes I mix a lot of colors, like yellow, red, blue, and brown, but now I have collected materials of similar colors, such as the berries from a red Hypericum, the copper seedpods of Talinum, and the rusty flower heads of the Echinacea.
I have used a classic Oasis foam wreath as a base. I soaked it in water before I started pinning the stems inside the base. For a light contrast, I have used Lehner wool tape for the wool balls. And of course, I didn't forget to use Finishing Touch floral spray either. Berries forever!!! ☺
Flowers used in this wreath: Hypericum Tomato Flair, Talinum Long John, and Echinacea Purpurea.
A Soft Woolly Hug
For the base of the wreath, I used a lot of wool ribbons, which I cut into small pieces and stapled one by one to a straw base. After that, I fixed a classic foam wreath on top, into which I sewed the flowers and plant parts.
The shades of Scabiosa and Helleborus reinforced each other nicely, and I was able to strengthen the circular lines with vinca tendrils. And of course, I didn't forget to use Finishing Touch floral spray either.
Flowers used in this design: Clematis Amazing® Kibo, Helleborus Mammoth Red, and Scabiosa Bon Bon Scoop® Maraschino.
A Romantic Autumn Bouquet
I chose a variety of flowers for this bouquet tied using the spiral technique. In addition to the classic autumn Chrysanthemums and some tropical Leucospermum, I also chose Talinum and Limonium, which I surrounded with painted eucalyptus branches so that the autumn colors stand out even more and reinforce each other.
Flowers from Marginpar used in this bouquet: Talinum Long John, and Limonium Scarlet Diamond. The other flowers are from the Decorum label.
Thinking Beyond the Usual
Creating all these arrangements has been about rethinking what autumn could be, challenging the norm, and inviting something different to the table. In a way, it’s a nod to all the florists out there who are constantly redefining beauty and seasonality in their own work.
I have shown in this and in my previous blogs that the autumn color and product palette can be surprisingly broad, and I hope to have given you a gentle reminder that even the most classic seasons have room for a little reinvention. Just dare to think beyond the usual.
