My Two 'Mathemagical' Lily Designs

I like to create magic by creating my designs based on the golden rule 3/5/8 of Fibonacci.

As you can see in my previous blog as Bredefleur Friend, I am a floral designer, but also a bit of a mathematician. That is because I am inspired by the brilliant medieval Italian mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci. He performed a kind of magic with math, inventing a sequence that we still use today—over eight hundred years later.

Please check my latest two lily designs in which I incorporate his math of the golden role with the yellow Lily Sainz and the red Lily Original Love, both from Dutch grower Bredefleur.

My Two New Lily Designs

In these new two flower arrangements, I made sure that the lilies played a prominent role. These flowers have a high attention value of their own, so they will stand out anyway. So why not accentuate this even more, and let the accents shift to the details? The lilies carry the arrangement this way, while the other flowers get to play freely.

The Yellow Piece

The yellow piece is set up as a parallel arrangement, where the beautiful yellow lilies are central as the focal flower. They are placed in the base of bio floral foam, combined with grasses, Crocosmia, sunflowers, and willow branches. This choice of materials creates a harmonious whole, with the lilies acting as a radiant center.

Look how this table piece with Lily Sainz radiates summer! It's like walking through a field of flowers on a relaxed summer day, with birds and bees circling around you.

The Red Piece

In the red piece, on the other hand, the Original Love lilies are incorporated in a very theatrical way, where they seem to break out of the base. The arrangement is carefully constructed, with a base of branches, rose hips, dancing Clematis, and Crocosmia. The combination of these elements creates a dynamic and lively whole.

Because I used the full length of the flowers it has become a rather high decoration. Lilies lend themselves perfectly to big and high designs, as you can see. And when they then start to bloom, the theatre opens its doors, letting you know that the show has begun!

The Fibonacci Sequence

Enough mathemagic for one day? If you have an eye for it, you may have noticed that both my flower arrangements are designed according to the golden ratio 3/5/8 of Fibonacci—a sequence of logical growth based on idealized assumptions—which ensures a natural and balanced composition.

The lilies were chosen because of their large and impressive flower heads, which give a beautiful visual effect to the arrangements. Their color and shape make them true eye-catchers on the whole. The use of different textures and heights creates depth and interest, inviting the viewer to explore every detail. These flower arrangements radiate craftsmanship and creativity and bring a sense of beauty and harmony to any space where they are displayed.

The lilies used in these designs are Lily Sainz and Lily Original Love. All lilies are supplied by Bredefleur.
