As the Christmas season approaches, our surroundings begin to transform with warmth, color, and tradition. Decorations have always played an important role in creating a festive atmosphere, bringing a sense of magic and togetherness into any space. From the classic evergreens to reds and sparkling textures, these seasonal designs help capture the true spirit of Christmas and make the celebration feel complete.
My Christmas Designs Deserve Thoughtful Planning
The Christmas period is a significant season within my floristry practice. It requires thoughtful planning and the development of innovative design concepts, often achieved through the creative integration of diverse materials and techniques.
Throughout the design process, I must also consider sustainability, selecting materials and methods that minimise environmental impact while maintaining high aesthetic and professional standards.
For these arrangements, I selected premium red roses from Porta Nova, the leading grower of Red Naomi roses. This variety is renowned for its deep, velvety red pigmentation, generous flower head size, long, elegant stems, subtle fragrance, and exceptional vase life, all of which ensure strong visual impact and reliability within my designs.

Futura by Porta Nova – The Rose With the Lowest Footprint
As my work is fully sustainable, eco-friendly, and foam-free, the choice of Porta Nova’s roses also supports my commitment to environmentally responsible floristry, particularly as their 'Futura' line is produced with the lowest carbon footprint in the European market. As of 2023, they can grow these roses using 100% wind energy.
To maintain these standards, I constructed my mechanics using securely shaped chicken wire, anchored inside a deep glass bowl, providing excellent structural support and optimal water flow to the stems. In addition to their sustainability credentials, these roses offer outstanding longevity with a guaranteed vase life of up to 14 days, ensuring that my Christmas arrangements remain fresh, vibrant, and enjoyable throughout the festive season.

Color Harmony
The palette is built around a classic Christmas triad: deep red, evergreen, and neutral naturals.
- Red (roses and berries) is the emotional anchor. It symbolises warmth, celebration, and abundance. Here it’s used sparingly but decisively, so every bloom has impact rather than noise.
- Green foliage acts as the stabiliser. The cool, muted tones of fir and pine soften the intensity of the red and create visual rest, allowing the eye to move calmly around the design.
- Neutral browns and beiges from the twig framework and cones bring balance. They ground the arrangement, stopping it from becoming overly festive or commercial, and introducing a quiet sophistication.
This is a dominant–subordinate–accent balance done properly: green as the dominant field, red as the focal accent, and neutrals as the supporting structure. As a floral designer, I strive to design innovative creations that inspire others and ignite new ideas for Christmas décor, using the most beautiful and striking materials.
