The wedding season is already ongoing as spring unfolds into long, light-filled days. Floral studios become spaces of endless creativity - tables covered in soft garden roses, delicate ranunculus, flowing jasmine vines, and clouds of airy blossom. Every wedding tells a different story, and every arrangement is designed to capture a feeling that lasts far longer than the day itself.

At the same time, modern couples are becoming more conscious about the choices behind their celebration. Sustainability is no longer an afterthought - it has become part of the aesthetic. That shift is inspiring florists to rethink not only what they create, but also its foundation.

A New Foundation for Wedding Design

For decades, traditional floral foam has quietly supported wedding floristry. Yet behind its convenience lies an environmental cost: like microplastics that remain long after the flowers are gone.

Today, more floral designers are searching for alternatives that align with the beauty and intention of contemporary weddings. Through No Plastic Floral Foam!, florists across Europe now have access to Sideau®, a biodegradable floral design material that offers professional support without the plastic footprint.

Sideau® provides the stability required for large-scale wedding work while supporting a more responsible approach. It absorbs water efficiently, holds stems securely, and naturally breaks down after use.

Designed for Movement and Romance

Wedding floristry is no longer only about symmetry. Today’s designs lean towards softness, movement, and a more natural flow.

Elegant flowers such as garden roses, tulips, sweet peas, orchids, and ranunculus thrive in airy, organic compositions where stems are allowed to move naturally. Cascading centerpieces, floral meadows, ceremony arches, and suspended designs all benefit from a lighter visual structure - something Sideau® supports without dictating the design’s shape.

Creativity Without Compromise

One of the reasons florists are embracing foam-free wedding work is the creative freedom it encourages. Sideau® allows designers to experiment with shape, texture, and layering while maintaining reliable hydration and support throughout long event days.

And because the material is available in various shapes and sizes, including the round Sideau® Cake Dummy, it adapts easily to a wide range of wedding applications, from intimate bridal tables to large-scale designs.

FAQ

How fast does Sideau® absorb water?

A standard Sideau block can absorb approximately 1.5 liters of water in just 1 second. It’s important not to submerge it longer than that, as over-soaking can cause surface softening. Correct hydration ensures optimal stem support and consistent performance.

What is Sideau® made of?

It consists of 97% basalt, a natural volcanic stone, bonded with a plant-based binder derived from sucrose (natural sugar). This means Sideau® is entirely natural and can be composted after use. The minerals in basalt enrich the soil, promoting healthy plant growth. Additionally, Sideau® is pH-neutral and free from harmful chemicals, making it suitable for use in natural cemeteries and recognized as a sustainable solution in many countries.
