Just as everything around us, the floral world is also evolving. Designers are rethinking materials, shops are refining their workflows, and sustainability has moved from an ideal to a daily practice. Yet one material has long remained difficult to replace: traditional floral foam.

With the launch of No Plastic Floral Foam!, a dedicated platform offering foam-free solutions, professionals now have a practical alternative that aligns with both creative and environmental values.

A Material the Industry Has Been Waiting For

Traditional floral foam has been widely used for decades because it holds stems well and absorbs water efficiently. However, this is far from being good enough. This known material comes with a high environmental cost. Conventional foam is made from petroleum-based materials and breaks down into microplastics that remain in soil and waterways.

For florists committed to responsible practices, this dilemma has grown: how to maintain technical performance while reducing environmental impact?

Sideau® provides the answer. Designed specifically for floral professionals, the block contains no plastic and no oil-based components. Instead, it offers reliable hydration for flower stems and stability for complex arrangements, while naturally degrading after use without leaving microplastics behind.

It’s an organic solution that allows creativity and responsibility to coexist.

Built for Real Floral Work

Sustainability only works when it fits the reality of the workbench. That’s why Sideau® focuses not only on environmental benefits but also on performance.

The material absorbs water effectively, supporting stems while maintaining structural integrity for various design styles – from compact bouquets to larger event pieces. Florists who have tested the product appreciate its versatility and the familiar handling it offers when creating arrangements.

In other words, switching to foam-free mechanics doesn’t mean redesigning the craft – it simply means upgrading the materials behind it.

A Platform Designed for Florists

The launch of noplasticfloralfoam.com makes this transition accessible. Instead of searching for alternatives across different suppliers, florists can now rely on one dedicated webshop built around a foam-free perspective.

The platform offers flexible purchasing options tailored to the needs of both independent florists and larger studios. Sideau® is available in multiple formats (including blocks, bags, Corso blocks, and design sheets), allowing designers to select the right solution for each project.

Orders can be shipped across the EU, with both B2C and B2B pricing available. Florists can start small with introductory boxes of three blocks or scale up with bulk cartons for regular studio use. Importantly, there’s no minimum order requirement, making it easy to experiment with and gradually integrate the material into everyday work.

FAQ

How fast does Sideau® absorb water?

A standard Sideau block can absorb approximately 1.5 liters of water in just 1 second. It’s important not to submerge it longer than that, as over-soaking can cause surface softening. Correct hydration ensures optimal stem support and consistent performance.

What is the consists of Sideau® Cake Dummy?

It consists of 97% basalt, a natural volcanic stone, bonded with a plant-based binder derived from sucrose (natural sugar). This means Sideau® is entirely natural and can be composted after use. The minerals in basalt enrich the soil, promoting healthy plant growth. Additionally, Sideau® is pH-neutral and free from harmful chemicals, making it suitable for use in natural cemeteries and recognized as a sustainable solution in many countries.
