Chrysanthemum Week Medellin

Every year, Chrysanthemum Week, held in outskirt farms around Medellin, Colombia brings together the best breeders of this species to acknowledge the upheaval, creativity, and love for this flower. This year was no exception, and we, as Thursd, made it a point to be present at one of the most important annual events in Colombia and our industry.

As the Accounts and Partnerships Director for Thursd Latam, I had the opportunity to represent our platform, the biggest online floral meetup spot, while visiting some of the most prominent Chrysanthemum farms that not only value and support floriculture but also encourage sustainable growth and innovative. Join me as I tell you everything about these fabulous days!

One of My Favorite Times of the Year Is Chrysanthemum Week

As the week started, I couldn't hide my excitement for one of my all-time favorite weeks of the year. This year, I visited five chrysant farms and their displays, farms that appreciated our initiative to share more about the Latin American flower industry. These companies, (of the eight that participated) demonstrated their creative goodness by supporting the competitive environment of floriculture through the cultivation and display of their beautiful varieties of Chrysanthemums.

As part of the key features, I was able to observe from these farms their hard work and immense effort that their teams put into making this industry even more beautiful by also encouraging sustainable and innovative maturation every day.

My participation in this unforgettable event included visits to farms filled with different floral styles, decorations, creativity, elegance, lots of colors, fun chit chats with colleagues, and where all the visitors were able to connect with new passionate people who share the same vision. Keep reading my journey to know who was part of my Chrysanthemum Week and the most important moments.

An Event Overflowed and Filled With Beautiful Chrysanthemums (and People!)

Amongst the highlights of the week, I was thrilled to visit several open houses to get the full chrysant experience of dreaming in flowers day to day. I had the pleasure of visiting FloritecDeliflor AmericasDekker ChrysantenIcon Selections, and Danziger where each team member insightfully integrated with the community and their visitors, sharing with us their latest innovations in Chrysanthemums.

It is so inspiring to see and feel the strength of how each of these breeders continues to drive creativity, power, impact, and quality in the industry, supporting continued growth and demonstrating their unconditional passion for flowers. This year, (among many others), there were two memorable events.

This year, Icon Selections celebrated its 10th anniversary, a breeder that has always stood out for its uniqueness in varieties and dedication. During Chrysanthemum Week, their floral picnic display was inspired by their local ambiance, focusing the attention on the rich 'Paisa' culture and exemplifying their special traditional architecture and scheme.

Within their facilities, they created a mini Paisa town, full of details and floral designs with their spectacular varieties of Chrysanthemums, capturing the essence of Antioquia magically and imaginatively.

The Memorable Delishow: Deliflorest by Deliflor Americas

Additionally, the other iconic event that stood out during this week, is known as the Deliflor Americas party. An unforgettable closure to an incredible week. On this occasion, their spectacular Delishow was inspired by the native nature of its environment, this year called: Deliflorest. This event was all about magic realism, from the attention to the local gastronomy they prepared, with a special show to enjoy throughout the night.

Inspired by sustainability and botany, it was held inside their greenhouse, influenced by details that reflect their dedication to the environment. Deliflor surprised all attendees by giving away native plants to promote a deeper connection with nature, which is part of their main goals for 2024.

Recap of Deliflor at Chrysanthemum Week

One of my favorite things about attending these events in the Latam industry is the power of networking and meeting other colleagues. During this visit, I also had the opportunity to meet and connect with Sahid Nahim, CEO of New Bloom Solutions, who plays a significant role in the industry. He was ecstatic to be visiting and supporting the hosts during this very special week.

A Cultural Exchange Within Flowers

It was a real cultural pleasure to be able to exchange ideas and entertain passionate talks about how we can support these types of events in the Latin American industry, uniting our knowledge for this platform and establishing interest from a different perspective. I am very pleased and grateful for the huge reception that Thursd Latam had for its first participation in this event and I am beyond excited to continue bringing more love and passion for floriculture to all corners.
