What began as a little home garden project has literally grown into one of the most thriving cut flower farms in Hilliard, Ohio, 'Darcy's Dahlia Farm'. It is the creation of Wyatt Thomas and Christopher Tomaso, two friends who planted ten Dahlia tubers and somehow managed to grow that seedling concept into a flourishing farm with more than 1,500 Dahlias.
Darcy's Dahlia Farm - Growth From Hobbyist Dahlia Growers to Successful Flower Farmers
The story of Christopher and Wyatt is one of gradual, deliberate development rather than quick success. In their backyard, what started off as a side hobby soon grew into much more. They overcame every obstacle, from learning how to protect against storms and overwinter tubers to mastering soil health and propagation procedures, driven by clay-heavy soil, erratic weather, and a genuine desire to learn.

Nowadays, after spreading the word about their incredible Dahlia farm and all the fun you can have when visiting them, they sell their flowers locally, supplying markets and events in the area where their flowers quickly attract attention for their variety and quality. Over time, they have developed an efficient urban farming setup that allows them to produce a large number of Dahlias within a relatively small footprint, making the most of their available space while maintaining high standards for plant health and flower presentation.

Blending Farming Know-How With Urban Advantage
In addition to fresh cut flowers, they also offer Dahlia tubers through their website, enabling other growers to cultivate the same varieties in their own gardens. This part of the business has expanded its reach beyond the immediate community, connecting with home gardeners and fellow flower farmers who are interested in reliable stock and proven growing techniques.
This is what a blooming Dahlia looks like. Amazing, isn't it?
Their operation combines the practical knowledge of small-scale farming with the advantages of being situated close to their customer base, giving them flexibility in distribution and the ability to respond quickly to demand.

But best of all? You can see these Dahlias firsthand. Cut flowers will be available from summer to fall. Flowers are what is available in their garden, but are grown locally and cut in the morning. Both Chris and Wyatt are excited to create any arrangement you'd like just for you!
In the future, Darcy's Dahlias seems more like a developing chapter than a completed work. The farm has evolved into a place where experimentation can flourish, whether it involves experimenting with odd color combinations, working with regional artists, or coming up with novel applications for an abundance of produce.

Every growing season is an opportunity to try something new, and their approach to work is infused with an openness to change. It's important to leave space for surprises that could lead their flowers and community in unexpected places rather than merely replicating last year's achievements.
