The Fachverband Deutscher Floristen traces its roots back to 1904. Founded to represent and support the interests of professional florists, FDF has grown into a cornerstone of the German floral industry. Over the decades, it has evolved from a small association to a powerful federation, dedicated to the advancement of floristry through education, innovation, and advocacy.

Why FDF is Important for German Floristry

FDF is more than just an association; it's the lifeblood of German floristry. Here’s why:

Florists appreciate FDF and profit from being a part of this organization because it creates a sense of community. Membership in FDF means being part of a network of passionate professionals who share knowledge, support each other, and celebrate the art of floristry. This is tangible at FDF events, where florists come together not just to compete, but to learn, grow, and be inspired by one another.

Key Role at IPM Essen

One of the standout platforms for FDF’s influence is the annual IPM Essen, the world’s leading horticultural trade fair that always takes place at the end of January. At this fair, the FDF welcomes the world wide floral community in its inspiration area known as FDF-World with the international show stage. Note: in 2025 the location for this stage will move one level up from Hall 1A to Hall 5!

FDF's presence at IPM is always a highlight for attendees, providing an essential touchpoint for florists to experience the latest in floral trends, products, and techniques. The FDF showcases cutting-edge floral designs, conducts live demonstrations, and offers workshops, making the entire hall a hub of activity and inspiration.

At IPM Essen, the FDF not only displays the artistry and innovation within the floral industry but also fosters networking and collaboration among industry professionals. Their participation underscores the association's commitment to advancing the floristry profession, providing members with exposure to global trends and connecting them with international peers. FDF-World confirmed this organization's role in setting and maintaining high standards within the industry.

An Active Educational and Inspirational Role

Looking ahead, FDF continues to innovate and adapt to the ever-changing landscape of floristry. With workshops, florist showcases, their own school at FloristikPark International in Gelsenkirchen, and exchange programs for young trainees to educate future florists, FDF keeps on proving its value as the anchor for German floristry.

Its commitment to sustainability is stronger than ever, with initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of floral production and promoting eco-friendly practices. Additionally, FDF is embracing digital transformation, offering online courses and virtual events to reach florists worldwide.
