At the International Floriculture Trade Exposition (IFTEX), which takes place from June 2-4, 2026, at the Visa Oshwal Center in Nairobi, Kenya, Meilland International is bringing to the fair, perhaps, one of the most anticipated roses this year.
At their stand, Stand B4.08, the French breeding house, six generations deep in rose innovation, will formally unveil and showcase its Red MONARCH® Meiriposo. So, as you plan your visit to the IFTEX (and the Meilland booth), here’s what you’d want to know.
Meet the Meilland Team at Stand B4.08
IFTEX is Africa's premier cut flower trade platform, and one of the most commercially significant floral events on the global calendar. It draws growers, breeders, traders, and buyers from across the world to a venue where floral business, connections, and networking get done, and even new varieties are introduced and get their first real market traction.
Meilland is always a familiar presence at this event, and 2026 marks an especially important edition for the French breeding house. At their booth, the team will showcase their full variety portfolio, but perhaps the star attraction of their showcase this year is the debut of Red MONARCH® Meiriposo.
Red MONARCH® Meiriposo, a New Rose in the Super Premium Red Segment
The red rose category is one of the most competitive in the global cut flower trade. There have been established names with strong recognition. Yet buyers in this segment rarely just swap one variety for another. The introduction of the Red MONARCH® Meiriposo rose is, therefore, quite some news.
Bred by Meilland and selected for the super-premium red roses tier, this variety is grown at 2,400 to 2,600 meters above sea level in Kenya, and reliably delivers stem lengths of 60 to 90 centimeters, with the potential for even more. Its head size averages 6 to 7 centimeters, placing it within the range expected by high-value buyers.
The rose’s impressive head size, strong physical presence, and reliable performance profile, therefore, support its place in the upper tier of the red rose market. But this variety offers more. Its color is a bright, intensely saturated red that maintains its intensity throughout its vase life.
A Rose Bred for Premium Markets
Red MONARCH® Meiriposo was made with the high-altitude (Kenyan) grower in mind. It is perfect for those seeking to compete in the super premium red segment, especially against the standards of Ecuadorian production. This variety, essentially, offers Ecuadorian-equivalent head sizes and stem length profiles from Kenyan farms.
From an agronomic perspective, the variety shows strong manageability under growing conditions. It tolerates pest and disease pressure well over time, while making its day-to-day management easier. It has been in trial and commercial production at Bliss Flora Ltd. in Kenya since 2023, where it has been grown from early trials to a substantial commercial block.
Its initial volumes have been directed toward the Middle East market, where buyer response has been positive. And with Valentine's Day 2027 preparations often starting early, and even underway in some quarters, this rose is worth having a keener look at.
A Lot More to Expect at Meilland’s Stand B4.08
While Red MONARCH® Meiriposo will definitely be the talking point in Stand B4.08, there will be a lot more in terms of roses from the breeder, according to their Area Manager for Kenya, Rowan Godfrey. Meilland is known for many more varieties in its portfolio, and IFTEX has historically been an opportunity to see all the flowers in that range, in one place.
So, visiting their booth, you can not only be sure to see and feel these roses, but also interact with the team of the breeder whose Kenyan operations are based at Penta Flowers in Thika, just outside Nairobi. You have the opportunity to explore and experience their other varieties and get even more insights from the team, which often also includes its many other key people.
For anyone, therefore, seeking out or sourcing red varieties in the premium red category, or those interested in adding exceptional roses to their growing portfolio, visiting booth B4.08 at the 2026 IFTEX should be natural, because that is where all their conversations start.
