No Plastic Floral Foam! and Sideau by Agra-Wool International

For years, floral design was often defined by symmetry. Perfect domes, tightly arranged bouquets, and polished centerpieces dominated weddings, events, and editorial work. Today, floristry is telling a different story. Designers are embracing movement over perfection, personality over tradition, and artistic expression over predictability. Flowers are no longer simply arranged; every installation invites guests to experience flowers as living art.

As floral design evolves, so do the mechanics behind it. That is where Sideau®, available through No Plastic Floral Foam!, naturally fits into the future of floristry.

Designing With Freedom Instead of Rules

One of the strongest trends shaping today’s floral world is the move toward sculptural design. Instead of oversized floral arches, designers are creating asymmetrical installations that seem to emerge from the ground, drift across tables, or float effortlessly through a space. Arrangements feel lighter, less structured, and more connected to nature.

This style asks more from floral mechanics. Designers need the freedom to position stems individually while maintaining stability throughout the event.

Sideau® offers dependable stem support while allowing florists to shape designs with creativity rather than compromise. Whether creating a contemporary ceremony installation or an artistic tablescape, it becomes easier to achieve a natural look without forcing flowers into rigid forms.

The Beauty of Soft Summer Color

Alongside this shift in form comes a softer approach to color. Warm butter yellow has become one of the season’s most sought-after shades, often paired with creamy ivory, delicate blush, champagne tones, soft apricot, and muted sage green. Together, these colors create an atmosphere that feels elegant, relaxed, and effortlessly luxurious. Garden roses, cosmos, lisianthus, sweet peas, ranunculus, and delicate seasonal blooms shine within these palettes, especially when designed with plenty of space, movement, and texture.

Sideau® supports these airy compositions by providing excellent water retention while holding stems securely in place, allowing each flower to maintain its natural character throughout the celebration.

Natural Design Deserves Natural Mechanics

Today’s floral clients appreciate authenticity. They want flowers that feel picked from a garden rather than arranged by a formula. That philosophy extends beyond aesthetics. More florists are choosing mechanics that reflect the same thoughtful approach.

Made from natural basalt rock fibers, Sideau® offers a biodegradable, plastic-free alternative to traditional floral foam. It combines dependable performance with the flexibility required for modern floral styling, making it an ideal foundation for designers who value both creativity and conscious craftsmanship. Rather than competing with the flowers, the installation quietly supports every stem, allowing the design itself to take center stage.

A Creative Foundation for the Future

Floristry continues to evolve as designers push boundaries. They experiment with negative space, unexpected textures, flowing silhouettes, and installations that blur the line between floral design and contemporary art. These creations begin long before the first flower is placed; they begin with choosing the right tools that make ambitious ideas possible.

Sideau® helps transform inspiration into reality, giving florists the confidence to design freely while benefiting from excellent water retention, reliable stem support, and a foam-free approach that aligns with the future of floral design. Because great floral artistry doesn’t start with the flowers alone but with the foundation beneath them.

FAQ

How fast does Sideau® absorb water?

A standard Sideau block can absorb approximately 1.5 liters of water in just 1 second. It’s important not to submerge it longer than that, as over-soaking can cause surface softening. Correct hydration ensures optimal stem support and consistent performance.

What is Sideau® made of?

It consists of 97% basalt, a natural volcanic stone, bonded with a plant-based binder derived from sucrose (natural sugar). This means Sideau® is entirely natural and can be composted after use. The minerals in basalt enrich the soil, promoting healthy plant growth. Additionally, Sideau® is pH-neutral and free from harmful chemicals, making it suitable for use in natural cemeteries and recognized as a sustainable solution in many countries.
