Local firm Plantea Estudio created the garden-like interior of Alblanc Atelier, a flower shop in Madrid, using earth-colored concrete, red-colored marble, and gravel. The Justicia neighborhood of the city is home to Alblanc Atelier by Noemi Iniesta, and before the Studio renovated it, the vacant area was only broken up by two structural metal columns. Read on to see the final result where flowers and interiors coexist beautifully.

Instead of installing dividing walls, the studio decided to arrange the space around a centrally-placed circular concrete plant stand and workspace, creating a bespoke space for the project.

Traditional flower shops set the flowers along the walls and leave the center free for people to walk around, probably with a counter on the back wall. In this store, the Studio was clear that they needed to add a space to work with orders and organize workshops, and the possibility to make it independent from the shop, with the benefit that this layout also creates the effect of a 'parterre' in a garden.

Half of the volume faces the entrance and acts as the main display stand. Its tiered shape, comprising three thick steps, was made out of a single solid piece of earth-toned concrete.

Plantea shared:

"Concrete tinted in an earthy tone was decided to make it look like the ground from which the flowers grow, and also to produce maximum intensity in the dialogue between the heaviness and permanence of the structure, and the lightness and ephemerality of the flowers."

More to Know About the Interiors of the Flower Shop in Madrid

On each step of the concrete volume, flowers and foliage fronds have been arranged in cylindrical glass pots to create a colorful show that faces the doors that open directly into the street. The stepped display faces outward like the classic kiosks, extending toward the viewer, filled with flowers and they seem to emerge directly from it.

Additionally, to make the flower shop even more beautiful and very aesthetic, matching and clicking with the Madrid vibes, a floor-to-ceiling linen curtain divides the display case, with its other semicircular half acting as a work surface for conducting workshops and preparing large flower arrangements and orders.

The studio also designed a C-shaped worktop made from red marble, which is supported by concrete legs that match the material used for the plant stand. Red marble is a very common material on the ground floors in Madrid, and many doorways are built with this kind of marble. It also works well to imagine it as hardened, crystallized earth to work over it with the flowers.

To create a warm background for the circle in the center and the shop's green fruit, the walls and ceilings were painted a neutral shade that was tinted with a little sandy pink. Plants are also visible from the two picture windows in the area to the rear of the shop, which look out over a plant-filled courtyard.

Details That Matter at Alblanc Atelier

A variety of lamps contribute to a dynamic lighting arrangement throughout the space. Long wires suspend aluminum pendant lamps from Ferm Living, while an Isamu Noguchi paper lamp rests on the side. Additional glowing wall lamps enhance the ambient lighting. The studio noted that the lighting provides a contrast to the boldness of the central piece, resulting in a setting that feels theatrical and intimate, drawing attention to the flowers and work surfaces.

Key functional elements define the atelier’s interior. Track lighting runs along the exposed ceiling surfaces, providing focused illumination essential for detailed floral work. This strategic lighting choice ensures that the workspace remains well-lit without detracting from the overall design. Additionally, a terrazzo sink mounted on the wall beneath a window adds both functionality and style. The sink's placement allows for easy access to natural light, creating an inviting space for preparing and arranging flowers.
