The Apurva Kempinski hotel

Set high above the coastline in Nusa Dua, The Apurva Kempinski Bali looks out over the Indian Ocean and dense, manicured greenery. It's a large-scale resort designed with theatrical ambition, where the architecture and layout reflect an interpretation of Indonesian design traditions. Every space, from the sweeping terraces to the open corridors that frame the sea beyond, is less like a typical beach hotel and more like a stage built to celebrate the roots of our planet, nature, the place it's situated in, the scale, and atmosphere. When staying here, nature will talk to you every single day.

Designed by Nature, Styled by Balinese Luxury Hotel The Apurva Kempinski

It’s easy to call something 'luxury' in Bali. The island is saturated with five-star escapes, infinity pools, and wellness promises. But The Apurva Kempinski Bali, besides sitting on prime beachfront or boasting panoramic ocean views, is built into the island in a way that makes it feel like it belongs to the landscape and endless palm trees and greens, not just placed upon it.

Perched high on the limestone cliffs of Nusa Dua, this hotel nods to nature, making the connection with the natural world one of its core values and a primary component of vitality. It opens its arms to nature and lets it shape everything.

A Hotel That Didn’t Try to Tame Its Surroundings

From the beginning, the vision for The Apurva Kempinski wasn’t to control or mask nature but to let it lead. The hotel was designed to follow the topography of the land instead of forcing a flat foundation. Terraces cascade down the cliff like rice paddies. Walkways curve instead of cut. Walls are rare. Air flows freely. And rather than compete with the surrounding greenery, the design amplifies it, letting the foliage feel like part of the architecture.

You don’t walk into a typical, sealed lobby. You arrive through an open-air platform that frames the sea into your dream vacay, flanked by gardens that feel like wild jungle, manicured just enough to guide you. It’s dramatic, yes—but not artificial. The effect is one of full connection to the natural world. From nearly every angle, you’re seeing sky, ocean, or trees—and sometimes all three at once.

Nature as Culture, Not Just Decoration

The abundance of plant life and living landscapes is deeply symbolic in Balinese culture. For the people, nature isn’t just a luxury, but rather see it as something sacred (like it should be). Trees, rivers, mountains, and even stones are believed to be inhabited by spirits. Building a hotel in such a setting carries cultural weight. The idea of building around nature is not just about making a space beautiful, but about recognizing and honoring the land it sits on.

The design draws inspiration from traditional Balinese principles like 'Tri Hita Karana', which translates to 'three causes of well-being': harmony with God, with others, and with nature. You see this philosophy everywhere in the property—temple-like structures, water flowing through nearly every courtyard, and gardens integrated into spaces usually reserved for glass and steel.

Even the smallest design decisions point back to this idea. Roofs mimic traditional Javanese carvings. Textures reflect volcanic stone and forest floors. The path from the lobby to the villa feels like a forest trail. You would have to experience it. Bali and its nature are calling you!

A Place That Wants You to Feel the Outdoors

Unlike many luxury resorts that keep you comfortable by keeping you inside, The Apurva Kempinski constantly reminds you that you’re outside—or at least not far from it. The air is humid, the plants are close, and the ocean sound doesn’t fade into white noise. Rooms open to gardens. Restaurants spill out over ponds. Even the elevators feel carved out of stone, as if they grew from the cliffside.

The point is not just to surround guests with nature, but to shift how they relate to it. Nature here isn’t curated or contained, and it's going to be part of your everyday. Besides, who wouldn't want to be in such a paradise?

Based on guests' reviews, they remember the walk to breakfast, passing under tall banyan trees. Even inside the hotel, they were aware of the ocean, the plants, and the sound of birds. The connection to the surroundings was constant.

Nature’s Got the Keys at The Apurva Kempinski

So much of modern luxury still carries this old idea of separation—tall gates, privacy hedges, glass facades. But here, the hotel doesn’t try to pull away from its setting. While letting the wild and natural in, it becomes a landmark that people want to visit more and more each year. Somehow, it becomes a reminder of what it feels like to be rooted somewhere real.
