Sending her floral love and salutations to the world, Hannah Lowery, owner and curator of Edges Wild Studio, is part of the florist special this week. Nature nerd and lifelong artist. Out there telling communal human stories through the medium and muse of floristry.

Along with her team, she curates special floral and botanical collections for people who are planning weddings, ever leaning into the symbolic and incorporating tokens and gestures that are meaningful to the people involved into every detail of the work. Each project has her whole heart, and becomes her latest obsession. The weirder the better.

A Structured Approach to Floral Design by Hannah Lowery of Edges Wild Studio

Edges Wild Studio, led by Hannah Lowery, operates with a clear philosophy: floristry can be both artistic and methodical. Based in Houston, the studio develops floral collections for weddings and events, with an emphasis on intentional design choices, ecological awareness, and attention to symbolic detail. You can count on naturalist overtones, urban juxtapositions, and probably literary depth, as well as curated palettes in her work.

Hannah Lowery describes herself as both an artist and a naturalist. Her work is influenced by years of observing patterns in nature, which directly inform her design decisions. Instead of following only trends that come and go in the industry, her approach is defined by research, practical experimentation, and client-centered storytelling. The studio prioritizes incorporating meaningful elements into arrangements—objects, plants, or textures that carry personal or cultural significance.

Balancing Form, Color, and Structure in Floral Designs

The studio’s working method is systematic. Each project begins with a planning phase, where Hannah and her team gather information about the client’s goals, values, and event setting. From there, she develops a design framework that balances form, color, and texture. Every arrangement is built with attention to proportion and mechanics to ensure structural integrity and visual balance.

Edges Wild is selective in its workload, taking on only one wedding per weekend. This allows the team to dedicate time and resources to precision in sourcing, construction, and installation. By limiting the volume of work, they maintain consistent quality so that every event receives full focus.

The Style – The Weirder the Better?

Hannah Lowery has developed a proprietary style of arranging known as Folk Art Floristry. Sculptural complexity, nuanced color palettes, and the incorporation of unexpected materials and curiosities define this approach. The work is intentionally non-traditional, often leaning toward a more masculine aesthetic while maintaining a balance of contrasting energies.

In her compositions, the focal point is not always a flower. Leaves, roots, branches, and at times even elements such as mushrooms or symbolic objects are placed at the center of the design. Each arrangement is created with the intention of coexisting perfectly within its environment, whether natural or urban. The goal is for every piece to appear as though it naturally belongs in its setting, contributing to a broader ecological and cultural narrative.

She shares:

"I love it when it feels as if the work had always belonged, growing into its landscape or urban architecture overnight, each part working to bring a larger ecological (and anthropological) story to life."

Once again, the studio’s style can be recognized by its complexity and layering. The result is arrangements with sculptural qualities, often designed to integrate perfectly into architectural or outdoor spaces.

Her work is not aimed at producing standardized 'pretty' results. The focus is on creating a strong visual identity for each project. Balance, line, and texture are prioritized, and the use of color is deliberate—applied to create tonal depth rather than to match popular palettes.
