The Kenya Flower Festival — often abbreviated as KeFFlo — is set to take place on Saturday 12th October 2024, making a return to where it all started in 2019; its original venue, Lord Erroll Gourmet Restaurant in Nairobi’s Runda area. This is where the event was first held roughly five years ago.
This annual event, organized by flower enthusiast, Rosemary Kimunya, is a celebration of the Kenyan flower industry; showcasing all the beautiful flowers that the country produces. It also celebrates flower enthusiasts and aims to promote the use of fresh-cut and garden flowers in everyday life.
Fashion and the Beauty and Versatility of Flowers, All for a Noble Cause
This year's festival, which is in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, promises to be even more spectacular, with a variety of floral-themed highlights and activities to engage and inspire those who attend. It will run from mid-morning to late evening.
The event, which will be the first-ever Floral Couture of its kind in Kenya, will be all about fashion and flowers to wear. It is a Floral Couture that will feature floral attires, in designs inspired by the iconic Made in Kenya brand dubbed Style by Neomi! So you better get ready to rock that floral fashion vibe.
In this edition of the event, the festival takes to new heights, merging the elegance of floral design with the avant-garde world of fashion. Participants can, therefore, expect to be dazzled by stunning floral-inspired couture creations, and interactive workshops that explore the intersection of these creative fields.
More than that, the festival will, also, showcase the beauty and versatility of Kenyan flowers, highlighting their importance in contemporary cultures and everyday life. It, also, will be a platform for showcasing the best in Kenya’s flower industry; displaying all the beautiful varieties of flowers grown in the country, which make it richly endowed in the global floral scene.
Industry players including Elgon Kenya Ltd, United Selections, Interplant Roses BV, Ball SB, Tambuzi Garden Roses, Sian Flowers, Lenana Flowers, Imani Flowers, Fenmolt Flowers, Molo Greens, Wafex Kenya, and Flamingo Horticulture, among others, as well as the Agriculture Sector Network (ASNET), the Pathology Network and the Xperia Agency — who will organize the event — will take part in the festival and support the cause in different ways.
A Highly Anticipated Annual Floral Event
Founded by Rosemary who recognized the need to elevate the country's growing flower industry and engage the public in the appreciation of its natural beauty, KEFFlo first took place in 2019. The inaugural event themed ‘Bloom in Bravery,’ — coincidentally themed around honoring those battling breast cancer as well as celebrating breast cancer survivors in October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month — was a success. It brought together flower enthusiasts, growers, and industry professionals to celebrate the industry's achievements and explore its future potential.
Fast forward to 2024, and the Kenya Flower Festival has grown into a highly anticipated annual event that draws both local and international attendees. The goal, according to Rosemary, is to not only showcase the beauty and diversity of Kenyan flowers but also to inspire people to embrace the artistic possibilities that lie within them.
KeFFlo is, also, not just about flowers; it is also a social platform that brings together local flower lovers, flower farms, florists, event planners, home gardeners, landscapers, and all things flowers in a fun and interactive way.
