The 2024 Met Gala Was Filled With Floral Attires Everywhere and These Were Some of the Favorites

Florals came in stomping at the Met Gala and people were not surprised because flowers are nowadays used in almost everything. Whether it's fashion, beauty, wellness, or decoration, you name it but flowers are always there and the 2024 Met Gala was no exception. Flowers dominated the green carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with stairways filled with florals. Flowers debuted on Zendaya's iconic Givenchy for John Galliano headpiece, protruding from Nicki Minaj's Marni look, caged in a dress seen in Amelia Gray, and cascading over Gigi Hadid's white dress among many other outfits inspired by the theme for this year.

The new crop of posy-inspired styles came in response to the annual gala's theme, 'The Garden of Time', which was inspired by the Costume Institute's new exhibit, 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion'. While the event's title was inspired by J.G. Ballard's 1962 dystopian novel of the same name, many of the guests chose to incorporate the exhibit's themes of nature, particularly flowers, into their evening attire, resulting in some truly stunning looks.

The Met Gala's theme provided designers with ample opportunities for creativity, whether they sought historical inspiration, alluded to time itself, or relied on tried-and-true florals. And, as usual, some were more inventive than others.

Approximately 250 garments and accessories spanning four centuries were on view, visually united by iconography related to nature, which serve as a metaphor for the ephemerality of fashion and a vehicle to examine the cyclical themes of rebirth and renewal.

Some of the Best Floral Looks of the Night

Singer and actor Cynthia Erivo took flower power literally when she showed up to the red carpet in a Thom Browne skirt suit that was covered in garden-like pink rose petals and replicas of butterflies, praying mantises, and ladybugs.

Meanwhile, supermodel Gigi Hadid channeled Old Hollywood in a white and black Thom Browne gown with a beaded corset and a dramatic sweeping train adorned with sweet yellow roses, which she paired with a bright red lip.

Demi Moore had one of the best looks of the night, even if she forgot to bring a bow to go with her arrows. The actress's velvet dress, designed by Harris Reed, was adorned with huge pink peonies made from vintage archival wallpaper. Reed said the dress took more than 5,000 hours to make, adding that it was designed so the flowers would appear to decay as the design flowed further down the dress.

Zendaya, co-host of the Met Gala, sparked a double take with two outfits (not as many as Lady Gaga's four, but still impressive), wearing an ocean blue, leaf-clad look by John Galliano for Maison Margiela meant to channel the natural world, followed by a black vintage Givenchy couture gown with a bouquet headpiece.

Singer Lana Del Rey had not attended the Met Gala since 2018, so decided she needed to give her fashion sense a root and branch overhaul. She wore a corseted dress in silk, double georgette, and tulle. The dress referenced an Alexander McQueen piece from nearly two decades ago, brought up to date by the fashion house's current creative director Seán McGirr. But the highlight was the special headpiece, which made use of natural hawthorn branches.

On a nearby rack, a vase of yellow tulips hung over the outfit designed by Loewe designer Jonathan Anderson for Dan Levy. A deceptively simple pair of what appeared to be floral print trousers and a double-breasted black jacket with a matching pattern edging the hem and cuffs was a 3D illusion of embroidered 'caviar' beading inspired by a creation in Loewe's fall women's wear show.

If you need someone to bring you flowers in the rain, Nicki Minaj has you covered. The singer's yellow Marni mini-dress was embellished with 3D metal flowers of various shapes and sizes, making it one of the night's most eccentric and unique looks.

Bad Bunny wore a Renaissance-inspired custom Maison Margiela suit in navy blue with pinstripe-like white threading. He carried a floral bouquet made of the same material as his jacket, reportedly intended to resemble a combination of roses, Flor de Maga (Puerto Rico's national flower), and the flax plant, which Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger on in the fairy tale.

Sydney Sweeney dazzled in a powder blue Miu Miu gown with black flower stems, looking as ready to attend the Met Gala as she is to do the dishes. The Euphoria star ditched her traditional blonde hair for black, which matched her latex gloves.
