For an event of such magnitude to be a success, the attendance of growers ought to be at a desirable rate, giving new novelties the right platform to gain significant traction. The breeder’s Open Days this year were unique, yet resourceful given that Icon Selections made its debut during the annual Open Days, treating Kenyan chrysanthemum growers to a colorful show!

The goal of the Open Days often is to kick start the year with an intentional selection round, the opportunity is a resourceful one for growers before Valentine’s busy schedule and flower sales.

Icon Selections Debut, a Review
Icon Selections entered into a partnership with United Selections last year, allowing the breeder to grow and display its wide assortment of chrysanthemum varieties for the Kenyan market.
Bringing a premium segment and taste of chrysanthemum bred initially for the high altitudes of the Colombian landscapes, Icon Selections put up a colorful flair. Chrysanthemum’Kenyan growers were amazed by Icon Selections’ quality and varieties, and precisely growers were spoilt for choices. Being the breeder’s first time to test the market, its debut was a great success and a start to an exciting journey ahead!
Expect to see more of Icon Selections in the upcoming joint events with United Selections throughout the year, but also growers are encouraged to pay a visit to the breeder’s show house at United Selections’ facilities, in Nakuru, Kenya.
Könst Alstroemeria, WAC Breeding, and Infinity Breeding
In addition to Icon Selections, Könst Alstroemeria, WAC, and Infinity breeding showed up with color, adding to the overall success of the Open Days. Könst Alstroemeria has now two years at United Selections’ facility since the partnership, which kicked off two years ago. The breeder has forged significant and beneficial relations for the two years with different alstroemeria growers in Kenya, the Open Days were an opportunity to build those relationships further!
Both WAC and Infinity are represented commercially in Africa by United Selections and some of their varieties which were highlighted during the Open Days sparked lots of interest, if the requests for such varieties are anything to go by!
