At 2,350 meters above sea level, tucked away in the bright highlands of Ol Kalou—where the clouds seem close enough to touch and the air whispers of untamed nature—Golden Tulip Farm thrives like a quiet masterpiece. Here, surrounded by the slopes of the Aberdare ranges in Kenya, every spray rose tells a story of vision, dedication, and artistry.
A part of the distinguished Black Tulip Group, Golden Tulip Farms began its journey in 2012 and harvested its first flowers in 2013. Today, it stands not just as one of Kenya’s most prolific producers of spray roses, but as a beacon of excellence, with over forty Interplant Roses varieties gracing its greenhouses and more promising stars in trial. But numbers only tell half the story. What truly captured my heart during this visit as part of the World of Spray Roses journey wasn’t just the roses—it was the people behind them.
The People Behind the Beautiful Roses
I met Mr. Umesh Choudhery, the farm’s General Manager, whose passion for spray roses is as infectious as the morning sun filtering through a greenhouse canopy. His eyes lit up as he spoke about their partnership with Interplant Roses—a collaboration that fuels about 85% of Golden Tulip’s production. He spoke not as a manager, but as a craftsman—proud of varieties like Spray Rose Mirabell, Sweet Sara, Reflex, Fireworks, and the ever-stunning Odilia. These aren’t just flowers to him—they’re personalities, memories, and legacy.

The farm employs nearly 590 team members, each one contributing to a culture of care and pride that can be felt in every stem. You see it in the way they harvest, how gently they handle the blooms, how deliberately each rose is placed in a box. Quality is not a department here—it’s a spirit that flows through every hand and every heart.
World of Spray Roses – Black Tulip Group Edition
In a world that once viewed spray roses as merely fillers, the World of Spray Roses initiative has become a bold, beautiful reawakening. Led by Interplant Roses and brought to life by a consortium of passionate growers, including industry giants like Golden Tulip under the Black Tulip Group, this campaign is not just about blooms. It’s about elevating spray roses to the pedestal they deserve, one story, one farm, and one bouquet at a time.

For Golden Tulip Farm, being part of this movement has redefined their journey. The farm, which already produces some of the finest spray rose varieties in the world, now has a platform that not only showcases their product but also educates the market, inspires florists, and stimulates consumer desire on a global scale.

Here is what Umesh Choudhery had to say;
“Spray roses are no longer just a complement—they’re the statement. The World of Spray Roses gives us growers a voice and a vision. It helps us connect the dots—from breeder to grower to florist to end customer—with beauty, purpose, and pride.”
This initiative has reshaped how the market perceives, interacts with, and consumes spray roses. Retailers now see the value in offering variety. Designers are drawn to the diversity in size, shape, and texture. Consumers, especially in Europe and the Middle East, are learning to ask for spray roses by name.

For Golden Tulip, and indeed the entire Black Tulip Group, it’s more than marketing. It’s a movement rooted in innovation, storytelling, and global collaboration—a floral revolution where the spray rose finally takes center stage.
Precision as a Lifestyle
Every stage of the process—greenhouse, sorting, cooling, packing—feels choreographed, like a quiet dance. What impressed me most? The layers of quality control, each one acting as a gatekeeper to ensure that what reaches a florist’s hand in Europe, Russia, or the Middle East is nothing short of perfection.

And while many farms speak of sustainability, Golden Tulip lives it. With two dams built not only to secure the water supply but to enable water recycling, the farm exemplifies smart, conscious farming. It’s sustainability not just for the flowers, but for the future.
New Discoveries in Every Visit
Every farm I visit under the World of Spray Roses initiative has a way of surprising me. At Golden Tulip, the marvel came in the form of the Parasols Collection—especially the Spray Roses, Pink Parasol, and the Precision Parasol. These varieties open slowly, like a secret being shared, with petals that dance from soft blush to richer tones at the center—a visual symphony that stays with you long after the bouquet is gone.

Of course, I couldn’t leave without a few bunches—some for myself, others arranged into Mother’s Day bouquets that spoke of grace, gratitude, and generations of love.
Golden Tulip Farm's Passion for Community
What makes Golden Tulip even more admirable is how deeply rooted it is in the Ol Kalou community. From supporting local schools to restoring the town’s police station, their impact extends far beyond the farm gates. It’s a reminder that floriculture, at its best, nurtures more than just flowers.
Golden Tulip Farm isn’t just a producer of premium spray roses—it’s a storyteller, a guardian of beauty, and a living example of what the World of Spray Roses and Interplant Roses stand for. This visit wasn’t just about flowers. It was about feeling, finesse, and flourishing together.

Next stop, more beauty awaits. I can't wait to share this with you!
