IWD is largely stimulated through shopping at women-owned businesses and through raising funds or resources for organizations that support women. On March 8th, the world emphasizes appreciation, celebrating women’s achievements, and showing continuous support.

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also serves as a rallying shoutout for faster progress toward gender equality. Globally, there is a lot of activity as people gather to celebrate women's accomplishments or to rally for women's equality. Every year, this day is celebrated and promoted with a theme that reflects current societal issues. In honor of this day, we'd like to share with you ten female floral designers from around the world who you should keep an eye on in 2024.

1. Valen Ibarra of Blumenhaus

Valen Ibarra describes herself as a floral designer for those who want to break free from the norm and stand out. Valen wishes to create unique floral scenes. Brides must feel special at their weddings, inspirational shoots must be one-of-a-kind, and other projects must reflect her signature style. She comes from a long line of strong botanical women; both her mother and grandmother are horticulturists. They began teaching her herbalism and botany when she was very young. Ten years ago, she began her floral career in a flower shop.

The floral designer and artist has been recognized and featured for her intergalactic flower art. From Vogue Italia to Rock n Roll Bride, her art has been recognized internationally. Making the 35 under 35 list by Florists Review, she is always pushing flower boundaries and following zero rules. With a deep love and passion for flowers, she focuses on telling a highly vivid, metallic, and pigmented color story with the blooms she intentionally selects for each design. Every bloom is treated as an extension of her soul. It’s not just art, it’s intention and it’s purposeful. As a Pisces, Valen is always using dreamy fantasies to generate fresh concepts and spacey otherworldly vibes. 2. Gabriela Salazar of La Musa de las Flores

Gabriela Salazar from La Musa de las Flores started designing with flowers nearly a decade ago after falling in love with them while studying architectural interiors in London. When Gabriela returned to Mexico, she searched for the flowers that had captivated her, but she couldn't find them in Mexico City. She relocated from the city to the mountains to be surrounded by nature. Here in Valle de Bravo, she has created an intentional, breathtaking garden that inspires her design work.

Gabriela is known for her romantic, lush floral design style. She attributes this effortless style to nature and growing her own flowers. While in the garden, she observes the contour of the plants and trees - taking note of their effortless movement and soft, graceful forms. She translates these garden observations into her floral design work.

3. Katya Hutter Floral Design

Katya Hutter is an Amsterdam-based floral designer who specializes in creating luxury and artistic floral arrangements for private clients, weddings and events, and the fashion industry. Her style is lush, abundant, and unexpected. Her floral arrangements are seasonal and nature-inspired, with an artistic twist. Katya is deeply moved by the wonder and beauty of nature.

Katya, who has worked as a fashion stylist and photo producer for many years, has a refined sense of style and can create aesthetically pleasing designs, which adds a dynamic dimension to her floristry. 4. Araks Sarkisyan

Araks Sarkisyan is a young florist from Armenia who has been practicing her craft for the past twelve years. Recently, she was featured in Florist Review's '35 under 35' list as a talented florist who stands out. She lives in California, Los Angeles, and was extremely fortunate to win the Marginpar-organized giveaway. Her career made a huge leap at that moment and nowadays, Araks is a female floral designer who is praised and admired by many, belonging to female floral designers to keep an eye on in 2024.

5. Stacey Bal of The Flora Culturist

Artist Stacey Bal celebrates the value in the vast diversity of the floral industry by wearing many hats including educator, consultant, event designer, magazine contributor, and product developer. As the owner of The Flora Culturist, she energetically expresses her ever-evolving point of view with unexpected materials and unique combinations of botanicals.

When designing for events and weddings, Ingrid brings her creative talent and charm to the process, combining stunning color palettes and eye-catching materials to tell a variety of carefully crafted stories through her arrangements and installations.

She is the author of three floral design books: Flowers by Design, Handpicked, and the bestseller Brooklyn Flowers (Massolit). She has been featured in several books, including 'New York in Bloom', 'Flowers, Art & Design, and 'Blooms: Contemporary Floral Design', which showcases top floral designers worldwide. Ingrid attracts students from all over the world to her workshops and master classes in sustainable floral design because she has a genuine desire to share and teach others in the industry. She also travels extensively to teach in cities such as Los Angeles, Mexico City, and Stockholm.

9. Iona Mathieson and Romy St Clair of Sage Flowers

Iona Mathieson and Romy St Clair's creative flamboyance distinguishes their look from the current floral vogue for single-shade minimalism. Sage Flowers' founders, based in Peckham, have created psychedelic displays for labels ranging from Gucci and Ganni to Prada and Fenty, as well as art institutions such as the Whitechapel Gallery. They also supply bunches to local restaurants like Levan and Flor. Along with classic blooms, the duo prefers those that are 'viney and creepy with nice bends' and sprinkles their bouquets with gloriosa, sweet-pea tendrils, glossy anthuriums, and passion flowers.

As exemplary women for the world, they have established a self-funded training program for budding florists from ethnic-minority backgrounds in a drive to diversify their profession. Throughout the free three-month Future Flowers sessions, trainees have the opportunity to learn both basic skills and how to recreate the confections that Sage has become renowned for.

10. Rachel Clark

Rachel Clark of Dearest Rachel, a floral designer with her own business creating stunning arrangements and installations, enjoys letting her decor speak for itself. Her love for flowers hit her at an unexpected moment in her life, yet a perfect timing. She prefers to keep the walls in her New York apartment neutral so that her flowers and knick-knacks can shine. But lately, those white walls were getting a little boring, and with her creativity and love for flowers, she does magic. She was also a participant in the HBO Max Full Bloom Season 2.
