The Freesias you are about to see in this article are real, not enlarged by AI or Photoshop. Can you believe it? It's amazing, but true.

If you're the type of florist who likes to give flowers the stage they deserve, then heads up: the new Freesia One® XXL is ready to make some noise. Invented by Van den Bos Flowerbulbs, grown by Mol Freesia, and available through All I Am Flowers (part of the Coloríginz family), this new line of supersized Freesias is something from another galaxy. Different. Bigger. Bolder. Leaf-on. And still 100% Freesia in character.

Freesia One® XXL???

So what's the deal with Freesia One® XXL? Let's check in with Marco Mol, who runs the company together with his brother Jeroen, to get the story behind this XXL stunner.

Marco Mol:

"It's a real Freesia, alright. But one that stands tall and proud at 80 centimeters. It has a strong fragrance, a big comb, and we keep the leaves on. That gives it a completely different look and feel from what florists are used to."

While Freesia One® XXL may feel like a fresh launch, it's been brewing behind the scenes for a while now. The variety was bred by Van den Bos Flowerbulbs, with whom Mol Freesia had been in conversation.

Marco says:

"Van den Bos has been working on this for close to ten years. We've always been on the lookout for a more efficient and sustainable way of growing Freesias. When we saw the trials in the breeding greenhouse, it clicked. We knew that this is the future, this is what we want to grow."

The process picked up speed last year, when Mol Freesia and Van den Bos locked in their plans and started plotting how to bring these Freesias to market. For the commercial rollout, they turned to All I Am, a label under the umbrella of Coloríginz.

Marco about this collaboration:

"We were looking for a partner who knows how to introduce new products properly. And that's really their strength. They have the right network, they understand presentation, and they're great at storytelling. It felt like a good match."

What Makes XXL, XXL?

If you're thinking "just a longer stem," think again. Freesia One® XXL is grown differently, harvested differently, and intended to be used differently. Let's go through some specs:

Marco notes:

"It changes how you perceive the flower. With the leaves on, you get this full, almost architectural stem."

Four Colors for Your Bucket List

Although it’s early days, the response has been encouraging. Marco shares:

"We started sending out samples a few weeks ago. The reactions from wholesalers and florists were super positive. People are surprised by the size, the scent, and how it holds up. It's something different in a good way."

So, start making your bucket list, because here are the colors that are available right now. Currently, Freesia One® XXL comes in four colors: white, yellow, blue, and a lilac-pinkish one. They're all strong performers with the kind of fragrance that makes people stop and sniff.

Marco:

"We’re starting with these four, but there are already new colors in the pipeline. Van den Bos is still breeding, and we expect more shades to join the range next year."

Handling and Display Tips for Florists and Designers

If you’re getting ready to work with Freesia One® XXL for the first time, Marco has a few pieces of advice:

"They’re heavy, high-quality stems, you can do a lot with them, but they do deserve the spotlight, so presentation is key. Put them in a spot where they get attention. You want your customers to see the height, the structure, the scent. Let them breathe. These aren't filler flowers. Give them space to stand out, whether in a mono-vase or a mixed arrangement. Keep them fresh. As with all Freesias, clean water and proper conditioning will go a long way. "

From bridal work to statement pieces, XXL freesias hit a sweet spot. They’re elegant but natural, structured but still playful. They work well in practically anything from loose field bouquets and seasonal shop displays to sculptural mono-arrangements and high-end wedding work

Marco:

"One of the nicest things about these freesias is how planable they are. Because we can schedule harvest times more precisely, we can deliver specific colors around key holidays. That kind of control just isn’t possible with traditional Freesias."

True Collaborations

The Freesia One® XXL is more than just a flower. It's the result of a long-standing collaboration between breeder (Van den Bos Flowerbulbs), grower (Mol Freesia), and distributor (Coloríginz).

Marco:

"It’s been a real team effort. Everyone brings something to the table: breeding expertise, growing know-how, and market insight. That makes this flower more than just a product—it’s a concept we’ve built together."

And this is just the beginning. Marco hints that more novelties are in development, especially as the breeding process at Van den Bos continues to yield new traits: stronger scent, improved structure, and new colors:

"Every year, we’ll see new additions. That keeps things exciting—for us, and for the traders and florists who work with our flowers."
