South Africa is home to the extraordinary fynbos vegetation. The Import Promotion Desk (IPD) is bringing this unique flora, including Proteas, Leucadendrons, Leucospermums, and Brunia, to the International Floriculture Trade Fair (IFTF) from November 4 to 6, 2025, in Vijfhuizen, Netherlands. Their showcase will be complemented by summer flowers from Kenya, carnations from Colombia, and a wide range of roses from Ecuador, Kenya, and Colombia.
Unique Flora From South Africa
The national flower of South Africa is the King Protea. It is stylized in the country's coat of arms, reflecting the importance of the fynbos biome to the country. South-western South Africa is known for its unique flora, its fynbos vegetation and its diversity of endemic plants. The word fynbos comes from Afrikaans and means 'fine bush', which describes the small, fine-leaved shrubs and plants that dominate this landscape.

The flower farms in the IPD program are small and medium-sized enterprises that specialize in cultivating fynbos plants, with a particular emphasis on Proteas. Some rare varieties, such as Silver Brunia, are even harvested in the wild. Sustainability is a top priority for these farms, helping to safeguard the region’s rich biodiversity.

Within the IPD program, the companies Bosjes and Concordia Flowers grow several Protea varieties, including the King Protea. To meet growing demand, Concordia Flowers also supplies ready-made Protea bouquets. Alongside Proteas, other fynbos favorites such as Leucospermum and Leucadendron will be presented. Nikwaflora will showcase an extensive range of fynbos species as well as cut foliage such as Grevillea Ivanhoe and Viburnum.

Summer Flowers From Kenya
At the IPD stand, visitors will also discover a colorful selection of summer flowers from Kenya, including Gypsophila, Hypericum, and Kangaroo paw. Cenacle Kenya produces over 25 varieties thanks to a favorable climate and expert cultivation. Florencia Blooms and Ole Engai Growers have several varieties of the popular Kangaroo paw in their range. Many other summer flowers, such as Craspedia, come from the Kenyan farm Wilmar Flowers. Roses from Kenya are also present at the IFTF: the company Rimi Flora specializes in growing spray roses.

Carnations From Colombia
Colombia’s wide carnation assortment will add vibrant splashes of color. The family-owned company Ecoflor is an expert in growing premium carnations and spray carnations, available the whole year round, with peaks of production for the main international flower seasons.

A Sea of Roses From Colombia, Kenya, and Ecuador
Those in search of new rose suppliers will find them at the IPD stand, where seven flower farms from Ecuador, Kenya, and Colombia will be presenting their broad selection of premium-quality roses. From Colombia, the farms Plantas Kumanday and Saga Flowers will be present at IFTF. Blum Expression, Lucy Roses, Rose Success, and Sacha Rose from Ecuador offer a huge number of varieties, as well as tinted roses and garden roses.
