Every now and then, a new plant enters the market, quietly shifting expectations. Not through hype, but through substance. Elixia® is exactly that kind of introduction - a violet cyclamen that brings fragrance back into the spotlight, with an extended flowering season, and performs beautifully in real garden conditions.

Launched by Morel, Elixia® is currently the only cyclamen of its kind available on the European market. Once you experience it, it’s easy to see why this variety immediately captured industry-wide attention.

Cyclamen Elixia® – Where Fragrance Meets Performance

What makes Elixia® truly remarkable is its traits that rarely coexist in a single cyclamen.

First, there’s the scent. A naturally intense, refined fragrance sets Elixia® apart from conventional varieties, offering an alternative that gardeners and consumers have long been missing. Add to that year-round flowering, with pronounced peaks in spring and autumn, and you begin to see its broader potential.

But Elixia® doesn’t stop at beauty and aroma. This cyclamen was bred for outdoor life. It performs well in gardens, thriving in beds, containers, and landscape settings, with strong plant volume, dense evergreen foliage, and reliable performance in shade or partial shade. Its perennial habit and frost tolerance (down to approximately -10°C) redefine cyclamen not as a short-lived seasonal accent, but as a long-term garden companion.

More Than Two Decades Behind One Breakthrough

Behind this innovation lies over twenty years of research and persistence. The journey began in the early 2000s with an ambitious idea: crossing Cyclamen persicum with Cyclamen purpurascens. Genetically distant, these two species posed a serious scientific challenge - but the goal was clear. Morel aimed to combine fragrance, longevity, and perennial growth into a single plant.

After years of experimentation and selection, one hybrid stood out for its stability and ability to express multiple key traits at once. That hybrid became Elixia® – the first interspecific cyclamen bred from seed, now internationally protected.

Héloïse Morel comments:

''What makes Elixia® special is not just one feature. It’s the balance. Fragrance, durability, flowering continuity, and garden performance all working together in a coherent way.''

Recognized by the Industry

Elixia® was recently shortlisted for varietal innovation at the IPM Awards, drawing strong interest and a steady stream of visitors to Morel’s stand. The nomination reflects what professionals immediately noticed: this is not an incremental update – it’s a genuine step forward.
