Saudi Arabia has got news! The Saudi Arabian government has revealed plans to construct a 400-meter-tall cube-shaped skyscraper called Mukaab as part of the Murabba downtown plan in Riyadh. It's an extremely innovative project you don't want to miss out on seeing.

Saudi Arabia Plans to Build Mukaab - A Cube-Shaped Skyscraper

The 19-square-kilometer complex is slated to be built to the northwest of central Riyadh and is being planned as a new downtown region for the Saudi capital city. It will be constructed around the Mukaab edifice, which is expected to be 'one of the largest built structures in the world' and is referred to as the new face of Riyadh.

The building will be 400 meters high and 400 meters long on each side, making it a super tall and super square skyscraper. Once again, it will grow to be the city's tallest structure, making the Arabic region one of the most innovative when it comes to architectural buildings.

Why a Cube?

The cubic design of the Mukaab building will 'enable the ultimate utilization of space' according to a news statement from Saudi Arabia. The cube's inside will be transformed into an immersive experience using the latest digital technologies and holographic. Besides that, a tower perched on a spiral base that will include retail, cultural, tourism, commercial, and opulent residential attractions will be in the center of the development, reason why the building is set to be square.

A Facade That Looks Like a Golden Treasure

The cube-shaped structure of the Mukaab building will be encased in a triangular exterior inspired by contemporary Najdi architecture, made up of overlapping triangular elements. Two million square meters of stores, cultural, and tourist attractions will be housed there, in addition to an almost full-height atrium space with a spiraling tower.

As chairman of the recently established New Murabba Development Corporation and the Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Mukaab tower is a part of the larger Murabba neighborhood. In addition to more than 100,000 residential units, 9,000 hotel rooms, more than 980,000 square meters of retail space, and 1.4 million square meters of commercial space would also be included in the larger complex. A multipurpose immersive theater, a university of science and design, 80 entertainment and cultural venues, and an 'iconic' museum will also be included.

Mukaab to Be Completed in 2030

The Saudi Arabian government expects the project to be finished by 2030. It is one of many massive projects now under construction in Saudi Arabia that are being financed by the country's Public Investment Fund as a part of the Saudi Vision 2030 strategy to diversify the economy of the nation. Up until now, the most well-known and contentious building in Saudi Arabia is Neom. Recently, they released a paper outlining the major specifics of the construction, which includes the megacity 'The Line', which is 170 kilometers long.

According to the Public Investment Fund, the Mukaab building will be the world’s first immersive, experiential destination, where you enter a new reality – transported to Mars one day, and magical worlds the next. It will definitely be a gateway to another world.
