I had the pleasure of working with a beautiful new variety of spray roses from breeder E.G. Hill, partnering with renowned Dutch breeder De Ruiter, called Spray Rose Constellation during the recent Prinsengracht Concert in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This exquisite spray rose variety boasts a romantic pink hue and uniquely fringed petals. These are qualities that uniquely set it apart from other varieties.

Spray Rose Constellation Has a Charm That Enchants

I first encountered Spray Rose Constellation last year during its testing phase and was immediately captivated by its unusual petal structure and lush fullness. It is a variety that combines the popular garden look with the multiple elements of spray roses.

I used it for a romantic wedding design in Antwerp, Belgium, and was so enchanted by its charm that I knew it would be perfect for the Prinsengracht Concert in Amsterdam. At the request of my dear client, the Pulitzer Hotel in Amsterdam, I had the opportunity to incorporate this beautiful rose variety into the event.

Incorporating Spray Rose Constellation Into a Beloved Classical Music Concert

The Prinsengracht Concert is a beloved annual celebration of classical music in Amsterdam. It is held in a special open-air setting at the end of summer. Most importantly, it is accessible to everyone — a vision brought to life by entrepreneurs Hans Duijf and Theo Inniger, then the director of Hotel Pulitzer, in 1981.

Since then, the Prinsengracht Concert has blossomed into an iconic event, drawing no fewer than 10,000 visitors each year who enjoy the beautiful music from their boats, window frames, or the quay. It has also become the most-watched classical music program on television.

A Design That Epitomizes a Summer Night Sky Twinkling With Stars

It goes without saying, that the floral beauty of summer is characterized by the vibrant colors, delicate petals, and captivating fragrances of flowers. And Spray Rose Constellation is, without a doubt, one such flower. It captivates even without trying that much!

So, when the Pulitzer Hotel asked me to create fifty small, summer-chic bouquets for the occasion, I envisioned the deep blue Amsterdam sky on a clear summer night, sparkling stars above the shimmering canals, the gentle sounds of music, and the warm summer breeze.

Inspired by this imagery, I crafted a sweet floral allegory featuring magnificent seasonal hydrangeas from my favorite local grower, Pieter Kolk. The hydrangeas represent the night sky, while the radiant Spray Rose Constellation flowers shine like bright stars in contrast.

The result was a delightful flower display that captured the essence of the event and reflected the floral beauty that the summer season is always all about. I hope you enjoyed this sweet story and the beautiful new spray rose that stands out with its appeal and delicate charm, adding a whimsical touch to any arrangement. It, thus, captivates all those who behold and experience it.
