January marks the start of a new visual journey by Decorum Plants & Flowers. With the launch of its video campaign: Grower for a Day, Decorum opens the doors to the world behind its premium flowers – starting with one of the most iconic flowers of the season: the tulip.

Each month, a new episode of 'Grower for a Day' follows a master florist or well-known industry professional as they step into the shoes of a grower. The goal is simple yet powerful: show where the top-quality process begins and why craftsmanship at the grower level makes all the difference further down the chain.

January’s Spotlight: The Tulip

Few flowers capture the spirit of the season like tulips. Available in nearly every color imaginable – yellow, red, pink, purple, green, and multicolor varieties – they are endlessly versatile. Tulips are for everyone. From vibrant mixed bouquets to playful arrangements in classic tulip vases, they bring movement, color, and optimism.

Behind the Bloom

In the January edition of Grower for a Day, Decorum visits three tulip growers: Van der Gulik BV, Fa. P Spruit & Zn, and Borst Bloembollen. Well-known florist Joseph Massie steps into the world of Dutch tulip growing to experience firsthand what it takes to grow premium tulips. From the fields to the people behind the flowers, he gets an inside look at the craftsmanship, passion, and dedication that define these iconic growers.

Tulip grower for a day, how will Joseph perform? Will he rise to the challenge? Check the video below.

More About the Growers

At Van der Gulik, a family business with over fifty years of experience, every tulip is treated like an individual. From field cultivation to forcing, each variety is closely monitored, “given a jersey number,” as they say, ensuring consistent top quality and access to the newest cultivars through innovation partnerships.

Borst Bloembollen stands out with an extraordinary assortment of around 250 cultivars per season. From fringed and parrot tulips to crown and double varieties, their range reflects both diversity and exclusivity. Produced sustainably in modern greenhouses, their tulips are carefully harvested and processed to ensure uniform maturity and long-lasting quality.

At Fa. P Spruit & Zn, three generations work side by side, the family combines scale with personal attention. Each stem is hand-inspected, resulting in heavy, robust tulips – especially in their renowned Ad Rem segment. Innovation and tradition moving forward together.

From Greenhouse to Vase

Beyond storytelling, Grower for a Day also highlights practical knowledge. Tulip care, for instance, starts with smart choices: buy them in bud, cut stems straight, use a clean vase with cold water, and keep water levels low. Avoid heat, direct sunlight, and fruit nearby - and refresh the water regularly. Simple steps that make a visible difference.

Inspiration That Connects

With Grower for a Day, Decorum doesn’t just showcase flowers - it connects people. Growers, florists, and consumers are brought closer together through authentic stories, seasonal focus, and shared passion.

Because behind every great flower is a grower - and every grower has a story worth telling.

FAQ

What is Decorum?

Decorum is the premium brand of over fifty Dutch growers. All are family-owned businesses, many of which are third or fourth-generation. These growers work together to create a strong brand that stands for high quality, innovation, and sustainability.

When is a product labeled as Decorum?

Each grower has a list of requirements that a product must meet to be delivered in Decorum packaging. This includes criteria such as the minimum number of flower buds, size, minimum weight, diameter, size of the flower or plant, and ripeness. Each company designs its quality process differently, depending on the specific product the grower cultivates. Some use scales, others use cameras, while some growers select everything by hand or use a combination thereof. Finally, and critically important, Decorum utilizes independent external quality controllers who verify in the supply chain that all Decorum flowers and plants meet the required standards. This confirms and strengthens the commitment to quality.
