Savia Bruta Landed in Quito, Ecuador, to Dictate a Once-In-A-Lifetime Experience
The above question inspired a unique classroom experience organized by Shallima Turizo, held in the heart of Ecuador's floral region. From Tuesday, July 21st, to Thursday, July 23rd, several designers from different countries gathered together in the capital, Quito, with local talent and spent three immersive days being taught floral techniques directly at the core of flower production. Within this setting, these participants get to know and understand the concept of how breeders and their growers become jointly responsible for the creation and production of their remarkable varieties. Throughout the experience, all attendees discovered everything that it takes to achieve long before a flower reaches a designer’s hands.
The masterclass was an in-depth journey, straight into the heart of the floral industry, where years of planning culminate in the art of creative expression.
This experience marks the beginning of the International Master Class Series, innovated by Lottas Floral Studio – an initiative designed to connect high-end floral education with the main floral industry through an in-depth learning experience.
Together with the flower school, Lottas created an educational format where world-class floral education meets the start of its journey. While Savia Bruta Flower School paves the courses of educational methodology and floral design training, the International Master Class Series brings together the genetics of breeders, corporate production, family growers, and related strategic partners to create an unforgettable experience that goes far beyond the classroom walls.
Over the course of these three unforgettable days, participants discovered the magic that presents an enviable understanding of how a flower begins its course until the day it becomes a star in the conceptual design it becomes incorporated within.
Day One – Back to the Origin at Rosaprima
The journey commenced alongside the beds where every flower starts as a bud, in one of Ecuador's most renowned farms:Rosaprima.
Participants stepped inside one of Ecuador’s most renowned and highly compromised production farms committed to quality through high procedural standards. Here, the participants got to know and experience firsthand how exceptional flowers are selected, grown, and harvested. They witnessed the rigorous processes dedicated to every stem at the post-harvest department, where selection is scrutinized with a dedicated level of commitment to quality so they can be bunched and shipped to the world’s most demanding markets.
Once privy to the work involved in this process, the course settled into a dynamic floral design session inspired by the surrounding floral landscape of production beds, allowing participants to create while being surrounded by Rosaprima's incredible range of roses and other summer flowers by Floraprima. They all witnessed the transition from floral beds into floral bunches ready for shipment.
It was the perfect reminder that the best floral designs begin with an in-depth understanding and appreciation of their origin.
Day Two at De Ruiter Ecuador and Agrivaldani, Where Innovation Begins in the Fields
The second day, visiting De Ruiter Ecuador and Agrivaldani offered an even deeper perspective on the floral industry.
By understanding the production process as a whole, the participants can feel a deeper sense of belonging to how a flower actually makes it to production. Here, they visited, participated, and learned to evaluate with a breeder whose responsibility is to create the varieties that will shape the future of floral design.
Meanwhile, understanding the genetics and the breeding programs, ones that involve color innovation, plant performance, production economies, and final selection, lights up the very sense of the artist’s imagination. Every step of this procedure generates a conversation that reveals how much research and passion exist behind every new variety.
The floral course sessions throughout the day reflected this new perspective, proving that creativity becomes richer when designers truly understand the materials they are working with.
Day Three – Creating Together
The final day brought together new dynamics, joined by everything the participants had experienced throughout the week. The setting took place at the EuroBuilding Hotel, near Quito's airport.
Course techniques and inspired new trends in know-how by Alex Molina, Owner of Savia Bruta, enhanced with unity, delivered the final creation of a team objective to create what resulted in a very colorful display of a collaborative installation. Each participant contributed individually with their own integrated vision to create floral structures that came together in the end with conceptual creativity enhanced by working together as one team.
The final design became a visual display synonymous with collaboration, bringing together education, flower farms, breeders, growers, sponsors, and designers in one shared objective: a beautiful floral creation for the hotel's lobby filled with trend, technique, and lots of color.
The result perfectly represented the vision behind the Master Class Series by Lottas Floral Studio: creating meaningful educational experiences where every part of the floral industry contributes to its learning. One thing that stood out as all participants gasped when seeing them was some of the tinted roses and summer flowers provided by Agrivaldani. The amount of color, mixes in palettes, and overall integration of roses and summer flowers was something that left a huge impact on everyone's mind.
