Joseph Massie’s White Beauty With Curcuma

Sometimes less is more, and the results can be surprising. The beauty of white Curcuma is beautifully showcased in this piece by Joseph Massie. It demonstrates that redundancy is a powerful force in design. In the white centerpiece, Joseph crafted an inspirational piece in an organic form, suitable for various occasions such as weddings, receptions, and parties.

The white Curcuma is grown by Villa Curcuma. They are the only growers in the Netherlands specializing in Curcuma cut flowers. They focus on high-quality, biologically-grown flowers with a long vase life. Their greenhouse mimics a tropical climate to suit the flower's Thai origin, requiring warm transportation at 15°C or higher. They harvest flowers ranging from 55 to 75 cm in length, with seven varieties available from week 1 to week 40, in collaboration with Decorum.

FAQ

What is Decorum?

Decorum is the premium brand of over fifty Dutch growers. All are family-owned businesses, many of which are third or fourth generation. These growers work together to create a strong brand that stands for quality, innovation, and sustainability.

When is a product labeled as Decorum?

Each grower has a list of requirements that a product must meet to be delivered in Decorum packaging. This includes criteria such as the minimum number of flower buds, size, minimum weight of the flower, diameter of the flower, size of the flower or plant, and ripeness. Each company designs its quality process differently, depending on the specific product being cultivated by the grower. Some use scales, others use cameras, while some growers select everything by hand or use a combination thereof. Finally, and critically important, Decorum utilizes independent external quality controllers who verify in the supply chain that all Decorum flowers and plants meet the required quality standards. This confirms and strengthens the commitment to quality.

Who is Joseph Massie?

Joseph Massie is a British floral artist, educator, and designer — often called 'the floral artist of his generation'.

He started working with flowers when he was a teenager in Liverpool, building his skills through competitions, winning many awards, including five consecutive RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold medals.

Alongside his design work, he runs educational programs (online & in-person), writes, podcasts, and shares his approach to floral art and craftsmanship.
