About Kooij Nertera Natural
Mr. P.J. Kooij from Boskoop started to grow Nertera granadensis in 1976. Nertera is difficult to grow and after trial and error, he mastered the growing of nerteras. Working together with his sons Hans and Ruud Kooij, they wanted to expand the nursery and grow more plants. Space was limited at their location and so the company began looking for a suitable place for this expansion to take place. A location was found at Ens in the Dutch Noordoostpolder. A 25,000 m2 foil greenhouse was built for Nertera cultivation. To this day plants are exported all over the world from Ens.
Ruud Kooij retired on 1 January 2017 and passed the baton to Henk Kooij. Henk has worked with passion for many years at the nursery and wanted to continue cultivating nertera. Henk will continue to run the nursery under the name Nertera Natural. The nursery is still undergoing development, especially when it comes to environmental conservation measures. A new water purification plant was purchased in spring 2018 and the nursery is MPS certified.
